Delete files shared in chat
Files shared in Chat are stored to OneDrive, but there is no way to delete file from within Teams. When file is deleted from OneDrive, it is (of course) no longer available and the individual gets a "Sorry, we couldn't find you file" error.
I would like to remove the shared file entry from the Teams chat.

Yes! This fix is really needed so there isn't unnecessary clutter and confusion. Thank you!

What else needs to be said?
Unless there is some uber retention requirement for content shared in a CHAT to not be deleted, (not a post or team channel, where content can be easily deleted!!!) it is a no brainer ... provide the ability to delete content. Thanks.

Being able to manage files in Chat (renaming, deleting, etc.) is essential, especially for recurring meetings.

I'm able to delete the document but not the link in the chat? That doesn't make sense to me.
My companies IT doesn't allow to delete chat messages so I am stuck with data garbage... -

I have found a solution! If you are the one that shared the file, hover your mouse over the MESSAGE where you shared the file. When you click on the ellipses "..." you will see an option to delete. that removes the file as well. It worked for me!

I want to clean up the files section in a group chat. The chat is very active, and having to scroll through every message sent just to find and delete the messages containing the files is dreadful. The fact that this is working as intended and this 'feature' have to be suggested is beyond my understanding.

To me this is more of a bug than a feature. The "files" listing in teams is showing a file that doesn't actually exist. It has been removed from OneDrive, yet it still shows in Teams as a file that exists. That is a bug to me. Teams isn't showing the true state of the file. Oh great and this is a bug that has existed for almost 2 years. Nice.

I agree with this feature being added.

Very embarrasing - Was trying to share a presentation with my staff today and when I clicked on share button other files were visible which were highly confidential and should not be seen by my staff. I quickly deleted the chat making some excuse but still don't know if staff saw the heading. Can provide more information in confidence if required.

This is SERIOUSLY problematic with Power Point and real time modifications for Working Groups.
I was presenting an PPT Presentation and needed to make real time edits. After modifying the Presentation, I was ONLY ABLE TO OPEN A PREVIOUS VERSION ON MS TEAMS! Because the file was present in the Share Tray, TEAMS would only open the previous version.
Even after logging out of the Conference and re-joining the Video Chat, the old FILE WAS STILL PRESENT IN THE TRAY!
I also could not open the new PPT Presentation I had modified... This is incredibly problematic for real time work... -

Would be a nice improvement. Possible in other chat tools as well, Whatsapp and Telegram for example.

I need to add my voice to the stream of comments on this. My share panel is getting filled with powerpoint files. Some of these are old versions of current presentations, I am therefore in danger of sharing the wrong version in classes. This is gives the students the impression of incompetence. It should be simple to add and delete files from the share tray

It is also possible to change a name of the file in OneDrive.

This should be the simplest of options to have. Microsoft, why haven't you doe this?

I cannot believe this was started back in December 2018 and they still have not integrated a Delete function in Teams for uploaded files to Chats or Meetings... Sigh...
- Yet I can go back and edit or delete this comment... SMH...

Not being able to delete a file in the "chat" option is super UNhelpful. Someone uploaded a file with a similar name to an important file and now the team is always inputing information in the wrong file.

Being able to delete a file shared to a calendar entry directly in Teams would be very helpful. At the very lease, please make it update the available list when a file is deleted from OD.
