Delete files shared in chat
Files shared in Chat are stored to OneDrive, but there is no way to delete file from within Teams. When file is deleted from OneDrive, it is (of course) no longer available and the individual gets a "Sorry, we couldn't find you file" error.
I would like to remove the shared file entry from the Teams chat.

Good idea! Please add a delete button. I really want to control this in the meeting app where the files are shared. At least for the meeting organiser.
Workaround is too much time-consuming. A delete button would be great.
Totally agree. Need to be able to delete old files in Teams
Not ideal but.. you don't have to actually delete the whole message corresponding to the file share. Rather you can select "edit" and then click the "x" icon in the portion of the message that actually indicates the file was shared.
Still an unsatisfactory workaround, but at least it preserves the chat history. Hope this helps!

1. Hover on the message (which shows that you shared the file)
2. Beside the emotes, click ellipses
3. click DELETE
4. message and file both deleted :)
Please create a way to delete files from within Teams. I will not want to upload my excel spreadsheet, if I cannot delete it. I need my team to put their updates in a file and then after that day, it becomes old data and the next week we create a new file... I NEED to be allowed to delete the old file. Why would someone want old files to stay in Teams. It becomes a mess... I would like to keep it clean and fresh. Please help.
I would like to delete files from a chat directly and avoid going to my onedrive to do so.
I also dislike that I cannot delete files from a chat. I don't want to delete the chat, there are important conversations happening. I am sending my teammates multiple files for proofing but I can't delete the proofs that are obsolete. Why can't we just delete files we don't want? This issue has been coming up for years! This is obviously a problem.
This feature would definitely be a huge improvement, please add the capability to delete files from chats.
Please allow us to be able to easily delete and rename files in Teams Chat. My folder with a coworker is bogged up with old files we don't want anymore and we cant even overwrite them with new info because we cant rename the file.
i have 2 files in a chat, both with the same file name, shared on the same day (by 2 different persons). teams shows the date of the upload but not the time. i would like to delete the older version of the file while i still know which user was first. as long as teams doesn't even display a time stamp the possibility to delete a file is even more crucial. deleting the whole chat is not the right solution, i need to selectively delete one file.
Guys, you may delete your chat cloud that shown the file you shared.

Definite improvement needed! Love Office 365. That feature would help remove direct access to personal OneDrive account. NON-Techy Business Owner

go to C:\Users\<user>\OneDrive - Microsoft\Microsoft Teams Chat Files and delete your shared files from there
or from your OneDrive(through Portal) go to Microsoft Teams Chat Files

100% needed, Covid 19 is a a fluid situation. I need to delete Files ASAP from chats that my Teams are using as a matter of urgency as the information is changing rapidly and its imperative we do NOT misinform. Why is this not a function? The attached is what I thought would/should happen but its not showing all options on my laptop.

We are considering investing in a different platform company-wide because of this missing functionality. There needs to be a way to delete files. This functionality is absolutely critical as teams are working together. We uploaded a file to a meeting, and a lot has changed. We need to remove the old information, and because we are not able to, it is messy and confusing and causing business errors.
apparently this fonction is available for Apple tab
