Lets make contacts great again!
Can we please have an awesome next-level contacts interface and management!? Pretty sure we were promised cool stuff in SfB that never came :(
While contacts management might seem like a pretty boring feature (because it is), its one of the most pivotal parts of the app. The whole point of the app is to communicate. So if you can't find or interact with contact information easily, it can be very frustrating!!!
The first thing that needs to be resolved is the fact that the "Calls" tab is the central location for contacts. That doesn't see right or make sense to me. Lets go back to the good old days of SfB and have a contacts tab. From here we can initial any kind of communication.
Probably even before doing that, we need to get the inconsistency between the A-Z search vs the contact list. We desperately need to be able to view all listed number types, in particular mobile from ANYWHERE. The interface often displays a mobile (or other) number as default for some reason, then when you click it it just does a Teams call - annoying and confusing for users.
Lets also make all displayed phone numbers click-to-call'able.
Can we also ensure that external contacts (and all contacts in general can have rich information added to them e.g. any number types, email, notes/actions. It would also be great to see a view of call history including voice mails.
Something that would also be very clever (for Outlook too), is if you surfaced phone numbers from peoples signatures. How many times do you have to search and search to find someones signature so you can get there phone number! That would be clever :)
A compact view of contacts would be good too. The card style contacts take up a lot of space currently.
Reverse number look up against all contacts is also a must.
Put search everywhere. The dial pad text area should also support in-line search not just phone numbers.
I'm sure others have some good ideas too.
Lets make contacts great again ;)

It is utterly absurd that this topic is still active and that Microsoft has not addressed this very fundamental functionality. Users' phone numbers (plural) must be accessible from anywhere in Teams. This situation creates obstacles to the adoption of Teams calling.

Contact card options should match other MS applications (i.e. Outlook)

Indeed very much needed!
In addition: Searching for contacs by department name (AD OU)
Being used to (and happy with) SfB people in my org. seem to point out what Teams does not deliver compared to SfB - and not so much what Teams adds to the picture. Crusial for sucessful migration -

I agree. Card style contacts are TOO BIG!
Smaller cards - e.g. move the three icons at the bottom to the right side.
or better yet, an old but still functional, LIST. -

Similar to other posts, more control is better, in my case it'd be nice to have the ability to hide contact details like mobile number of faculty from students.

__ASAP__ PLEASE !!! this is a MUST HAVE..!!
..the call log is a joke, contacts in the call log are a joke.. come on M$
10 years ago, Lync 2010 was far better in doing what Teams should have had right out of the box.. why do we need user voice for basic functions like this, it has to be there by design.
shame!
its 2020 and you're still making rookie mistakes.honestly Teams looks like it was made by a teenage school boy in their lunch time, LOL, so badly written code... -

1) need to be able to bring in distribution lists from outlook/activ directory in order for users to add departmental groups all at once, with the ability to expand the list of users, and be able to right click on one individual to start a chat or call with - like skype for business! 2) also like skype 4 biz, when you rt clk an person's entry, there should be a contact info page to display that user's name/desk phone/cell phone, complete address, & email address. 2) there needs to be an option in the settings to turn of auto expanding all contact groups at startup. 4) other than the rt clk option to hide a msg from the main view, we need an option to unhide or see all hidden msg, plus the abililty to either delete them altogether to save them to outlook (like skype 4 biz).

This is basic functionality, we have all our staff mobiles in our GAL. On SFB when you went to initiate a call it gave you the option of calling their mobile. Now it just directly calls their Teams unless you haven't communicated with the user in the past., then it gives you the option. Annoying when you just need to dial someones mobile! The other option to retrieve their details is to add them as a contact, very annoying!

I would vote for this 10,000 times if I could. It is difficult to find contacts and not being able to select the number to call is why I still use Skype. It would b great to get this all in one app.

Its just so annoying how teams uses contacts.
Why does Teams doesnt use the GAL. It has al the mail contact (which can be admin controllerd), all my organisation groups and collegues)
Even if when a user is only a mailbox account with the office phone number populated it still tries to make a SIP teams call. Mail User does not have SFB plan2 or Teams license SO WHY DOES IT??!!!So fricking stupid. Either dont, or give me the option what I want to call. Just like in SFB i had options to call, Office, Cell, Voicemail or do a skype call.
Also Chat and Call tab just should be one Tab.
Teams contacts is just NOT working.

Would be handy to be able to configure which fields are displayed in the contacts pop-ups, the Who Teams add-in, etc.

These are all BASIC usability features that should have been there from day one.
All these missing and broken features makes me think that Teams is not fit for purpose in any way.
It is too big, clumsy, buggy and does not do what users need.
Skype for Business wasn't great but it was MUCH better than this. -

During this Work-from-home time, mobile numbers are even more important.
Please add the mobile numbers in the contacts info. -
