No Chat Notifications When Meeting is Declined in Outlook
- I get a Teams meeting invite in Outlook.
- I decline the invite.
- If someone in that meeting posts in Chat, then I get a notification from a meeting I declined! I have to go to Teams and leave the meeting.
Additional Info: My meeting invite is through a group list.

What is the point of giving us the option to “mute” or “hide” a conversation if it will pop back up in my chat feed as soon as someone sends a message????
And the “option” to “mute until I join or send a message” doesn’t even work. I still see the chat in my chat window.
If I am not attending a meeting, or if I don’t accept a meeting invite, I DONT NEED TO BE EXPOSED TO THE CHAT.
Why is this not common sense?

I have just found out about this through others in the company. This is an incredibly frustrating problem, especially for those who are invited to multiple meetings at the same time. Do they now have to simply mute all chat notifications from Teams to avoid this?
I would understand that people get added to the chat for a meeting invitation that they accepted, but for ones that they DECLINE? How is this not fixed yet??

I agree! This has been a big issue for our company especially when we have larger meetings. We don't use Live Events for these because we want people to be able to vocally ask questions. It is frustrating to invite 100+ people to a meeting and still have those who did not respond or declined to be included in the chat.
Most of those users are confused as to why they are included. This needs to be addressed!

We have executive level members of our company complaining about this quite a bit. They are invited to a lot of meetings not all of which they are able to attend. When they decline the meeting they assume they will not then see the chat. When they do receive the chat it results in unnecessary "noise" in the Teams client chat history. The "mute-all-before-join" meeting notification is OK, but all it in essence does is mute a chat that shouldn't be there to start with.

We are having this same issue. It is extremely disruptive to the Teams experience to have chat notifications appear for a meeting that's been declined. We are equally concerned this will a bigger issue with executives who receive more meeting invites than the average user. An update on this issue would be appreciated asap!

The same is true if you remove someone and send them a cancellation notice. They should not then get notifications or the chats at all. If you declined or are removed, than it should include chat as well. Hoping they get this fixed soon!

I decline meetings if they aren't appropriate for me to attend, and typically do this in advance. Having declined the meeting, the last thing i want cluttering up my chat feed is meetings that i have no interest in.
Then having to right click on the meeting to leave it, then right click again to hide the meeting conversation (don't get me started about lack of abilities to delete things) is a waste of time and productivity.
A general setting to action this shouldn't be too difficult, especially as this feature was built into skype for business.

Please fix this. It is annoying to be in the Chat of a meeting you declined

Typically I will decline the meeting weeks in advance. It disappears from the calendar in Outlook and in Teams. Then, on the day of this meeting, I suddenly I get a chat question from someone. I click on the message since I believe it is directed to me, but soon realise that it is from someone in the cancelled meeting, and not meant for me. By clicking on this message I have also formally entered the meeting which will be shown in the status line at the top! Highly confusing and also plain wrong. Please fix this!

How to I vote several thousand times for this???? I decline meetings, often times several weeks in advance and then I continually receive chats and comments popping up. It's distracting, annoying and not efficient to go into each meeting and remove/mute/mark as read. This easily should be an option to decline with/without future meeting activity.

Equally annoyed by this. Declining means just that. I don't want to see chat for a meeting I can't even recall what it is since I declined.
What is even more annoying is I choose Leave and Hide ... it's gone ... then it comes back again. Even Leave on the chat is not the end of it as it seems to come back for the meeting ending.
Microsoft you have to fix this as it is clearly not a feature anyone would want and is a bug/flaw with how it is functioning. I have to say that notifications in general in Teams has been my least favorite about the product.

I was surprised by similar behavior from a recurring meeting that I was a gest of once. The meeting is not in my calendar today since I was invited to only one instance of it months ago, yet today I received chat notifications from it. Very unintuitive behavior.

Will Microsoft at least provide a work around? This seems to be an issue for so many people!
