Lock the Video Spotlight
In Skype for Business hosted meetings, there is a feature called "Lock the Video Spotlight" that allows you to choose a video feed that's displayed to all participants. This feature does not appear to be in the Teams client today, and it doesn't appear on the Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams Capabilities Roadmap.
In some Teams meetings I want all my participants to just view one presenters video stream and not have the 4 participant split view. We need a way for the Teams meeting host to force their video to be prominent from the participants view.
Enabling a presenter to lock the video stream for all users who join a meeting, is planned.
Pinning participants is already available – this was tracked in https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/19512820
Is there a timeline when the presenter lock screen will be available?
Really needed this feature for a 200+ user meeting where we were trying to have specific users on video all the time. Even with muting all attendees and trying to directly manage attendees with pre meeting communications, etc, it still didn't work as planned. Cannot wait for this to be released. Please hurry!
This feature is needed if you need a solution for meetings that are close to a webinar, with the ability to include the participants if needed. In browser the pinning function is not available.
Can't be serious. Tons of rather useless options, but no important features like this.
Great to see that there is not even an update on the topic on this website.
Agree with previous comments: The pinning feature that is mentioned doesn't solve the issue.
We should be able to:
1. Pin a or Lock the video of 1 participant to all participants
(It should be possible to select any user in the call (guest or normal user) to be the "locked" video for all participants)
2. Choose to follow the speaker (forced on all participants)
I hope this will be added really soon as this is such a dealbreaker as it comes on top of the fact that you only get 4 videos in screen simultaneously at the moment.
The issue I am seeing here is that there are three different things which I am seeing with regards to the "how do I control the main video"
1. Why can't MS Teams allow for the locking of the main video (I agree pinning a video is not what "we" have in mind.
2. Follow the speaker: This is the feature which I am personally the most interested in. In small to mid-sided meetings (2-20) I'd like to have the ability to set the video to be able to follow the primary speaker in a "talking heads" style meeting.
3. selecting and forcing a specific video to stay on the screen- I'd say that pinning is an adequate solution to this.
Curious if others have found solutions to the 1st two and or if MS has publicly committed to adding the other two features.
What are the chances that this option is built into Teams at this point? We have a group of 200 people on Teams and the screen is split. Having to "pin" the presenter is ok for a scenario with 2-3 people, but not for 200!!
This a deal breaker for us as a school. MS Teams ticks most boxes but without this we will be using other software.
The problem is, we would like to be able to have a presenter's webcam PINNED and Full Screen Content.
I'm at a 30,000 person company across 42 countries and entire organizations are trying to bail from 365 to other solutions that enable this feature, Webex and Adobe Connect allow this.
Must add feature, Full screen content + selectable presenter video view. (PIN AS PRESENTER to all participants) that is the function we need.
YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS IN YOUR TEAMS FUNCTIONALITY.
Teams Live just to add this common use case is painful. Many users struggle with Teams Live as it takes additional steps and roles to setup.
PLEASE RE-EVALUATE, this function does NOT exist in Teams.

Thanks for that update. I am currently trying to convince a client to use Teams for their video meetings and this is going to be a big roadblock for them. Are you able to provide a time frame or roadmap for when this feature might be released to the public?
Pinning the presenter isn't too difficult of course but my customer places a lot of value on the fact they can record the meeting so others can watch it at a later date. If the recorded video is not pinned they are going to object.

What about recordings - I will manual pin the video spotlight at each endpoint but when it comes to the playback will I be back to equal squares? is the anyway to have the recording pinned or focused on one end point/video spotlight at a time, determined by myself or the viewer?

It is listed in the November 15, release notes (pin video streams during a meeting).
This is rather confusing. Here it says that this is on the backlog, while in this uservoice request below it is marked as "COMPLETED".
Either way, it seem to work (at least for us) to pin other user's video, but not your own.
And recording is still pretty much useless. Even if you pin another user's video so that it displays in full screen your recording will be split into half screen or quarter screen - extremely annoying!
Does anyone know of any workaround?

Anyone see or hear any update on this?
Currently I have 3 clients asking for this feature and it has become a make or brake for some of my Surface Hub deals

This definitely needs to be moved up on the list. Meetings are not always collaborative. We do training videos and use the Chat feature for interaction as too many attendees can cause chaos!!! We also record them for future playback, so recording the screen with different panes of peoples is not super effective.
Well, it's not like the migration from Skype to Teams are ready at writing moment. There's a couple of basic functions that should have been in place from the beginning. For example, in Skype you could choose presenters and attendees, now everyone is a presenter...
User should be able to choose how many video panes, 1, 2, 3, 4,6,8 and ability to pin panes and let others rotate based on last speaker.
lync had pin capabilities pre skype.
To do a loop around, I just open my camera app on my computer, maximize it, and present my screen to the other participants. It works for the time being while waiting on this feature to get added.
Can we get a status update on this feature?
We want to host remote seminars using Teams... can't do that without this feature. So, despite having Team fully in-use internally, we now host our remote seminars using Zoom. Very, very, silly.
