Keep Tab in Memory when Switching to Chat / Other Tab - Prevent Loss of Edits, Files, Login credentials
Switching from a Tab to Chat / Teams / Other Tabs causes the Tab to close, causing you to have to reopen the Tab (actually having to navigate to it again inside the team). This will reload the tap and all content before the Switching will be lost.
1. Tabs open in Team gets reset - when switching between Teams in Team View
2. Tabs reload - when switching between Chat and Team View
3. Content (edits, files etc) on Tab gets lost (Happens both for to Issue 1 and 2)
4. It makes you re-sign-in to Planner, Jira or whatever third-party tab you were using
1. Tabs should stay open in the related Team - having to navigate and reopen a tab every time is very bad for workflow (Relates to Issue 1)
2. Tabs should be kept in memory - Reloading the tab every time is Very slow (Relates to Issue 1 and 2)
For us the main issue is that we lose edits, files, data etc when we navigate away from a tab to a chats or a different tab as the original tab reloads. We really can not be loosing data.
I see many of other issues on here that are related? I will list them here and ask that they get merged.
I will also comment on all the other issues and ask that people come here to vote and list more issues so that I can keep this issue updated with requests.
The team is working on changes to the desktop client so recently opened tabs are kept in memory, as long as it doesn’t use too much memory.
I will keep you posted as we make further progress.

I have been running into this problem many times myself. Came here to add the same suggestion. This would really save me and my team a lot of time
Dear god yes please! I work across dozens of of teams in a fast-paced day, I need to switch between multiple teams and have it go back to what I was working on, not just the same default chat!
Yes I find this really annoying too. It isn't just a Word tab. I was entering a comment into a Planning tab item, pressed ALT + left and the whole tab changed and I lost my text. Tab navigation via ALT should be disabled when in text entry (and the system default text navigation should be allowed to work as normal).

I use teams as a workspace. That includes managing my wrike tasks, taking notes in one note, editing word documents etc.
I find it frustrating when I'm in the middle of a task and I receive a message or an @ mention and I can't interact without moving away from the task I'm currently working on. This is only made worse because when I switch back the item refreshes.
I think if I could pin a chat, conversation thread, channel, or tab within a channel as a tab at the top of teams then it would be much easier to move between things I'm working on.
Switching to a pinned item should be snappy. Ideally there would be no reload of that item.
I've added a mockup of how it might look
Switching between oneNote tabs and planer tabs takes a ridiculous amount of time. How i am supposed to work if this steals always 10 seconds?
Keeping (for example) the last 5 tabs in memory should be simple to implement and enough for most of the people.
Opening docs via OneDrive behave in this way (doc title on the tab rather than DOCX etc)
Proposed change would bring consistancy

Text on internet browser tabs updating with file name.
I have opened a few documents via Teams into the word online editor. All of the tabs display 'DOCX File viewer | Microsoft Teams'.
It would be really useful if they instead had the title of the document so I could easily locate a specific document that I want rather than have to cycle through my opened documents to locate the correct one.
Ability to have multiple tabs or have the chat in a separate tab.
User Case: I will be working on the planner adding/ updating tasks. when I receive an IM, I need to check it, but when I do I lose where I was in the planner and it takes me a few more clicks to get back to where I was
It's not productive to switch between tabs and then always have to find and reload the other tabs you were working on.
The reload is bad enough, but losing the context sets application usage backward, not forward.
We are given group log-in information to customer SharePoint pages and website, it would be nice if we could configure the tab to always log in with those credentials for all team members.
Our team has multiple customer we work with, and they all have there own SharePoint site, to which we have to interact with. We create tab for each customer site (as you can add multiple one drives yet), but every time we go to the tab we have change out log in from our SharePoint site. It would be nice if we have specify our login for that specific tab rather then have to log in and out ever type we jump between tabs.

Teams effectively has no caching ANYWHERE. Even chat history is painfully slow to try and browse through (up OR down!) :@
My teams only use a few web-based applications, and being able to add this as an option for a website tab would be a fantastic win!
Yes, I have teams that only require a couple of applications that are web-based. If we could allow background/persistent website tabs so they don't lose their work if they go to "Chat" or another tab.
That would be fantastic!
I have the same issue, this is really annoying and I believe it might be correlated with the new sign in experience.

We lost file opened in Teams tab when we switch between Chat tab and Teams tab. This is an awkward in daily use.
Could you identify this point a give me your opinion about this ?

We have a channel with a tab with a Word document which lost a large comment I was working on because Teams/Word does not recognise and respect standard OS keyboard shortcuts.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a channel in Teams with a Word tab containing a Word document.
2) Add a comment to a piece of text in the document and start typing the comment.
3) Press alt+left arrow.
4) Teams will switch to the tab to the left of the Word tab silently loosing the comment with no obvious way to restore it.
This is problematic because a) Word silently looses data and b) Teams/Word does not respect OS keyboard shortcuts that are ingrained in user muscle memory.
Tested on Teams 1.0.00.28451, macOS 10.13
The creation of tabs with the Launch fullscreen setting enabled needs checking for any contribution to this issue. Its not obvious if manually 'expanding' a tab is equivalent to the intent of the setting in tab creation called 'launch fullscreen'.
This issue is not constrained to Planner tab. It happens for Smartsheet integration also likely meaning that the principle design for Teams tab reauth is broken for Chrome users.
