Keep Tab in Memory when Switching to Chat / Other Tab - Prevent Loss of Edits, Files, Login credentials
Switching from a Tab to Chat / Teams / Other Tabs causes the Tab to close, causing you to have to reopen the Tab (actually having to navigate to it again inside the team). This will reload the tap and all content before the Switching will be lost.
1. Tabs open in Team gets reset - when switching between Teams in Team View
2. Tabs reload - when switching between Chat and Team View
3. Content (edits, files etc) on Tab gets lost (Happens both for to Issue 1 and 2)
4. It makes you re-sign-in to Planner, Jira or whatever third-party tab you were using
1. Tabs should stay open in the related Team - having to navigate and reopen a tab every time is very bad for workflow (Relates to Issue 1)
2. Tabs should be kept in memory - Reloading the tab every time is Very slow (Relates to Issue 1 and 2)
For us the main issue is that we lose edits, files, data etc when we navigate away from a tab to a chats or a different tab as the original tab reloads. We really can not be loosing data.
I see many of other issues on here that are related? I will list them here and ask that they get merged.
I will also comment on all the other issues and ask that people come here to vote and list more issues so that I can keep this issue updated with requests.
The team is working on changes to the desktop client so recently opened tabs are kept in memory, as long as it doesn’t use too much memory.
I will keep you posted as we make further progress.
Just had a conference call interrupted by this, amazingly while I was using another tab, in fact several it was ok, it was only when I returned to the tab the call was on that the call dropped.
Is this still a beta version of the browser option?

Just adding my name to this, we need this functionality as well. Am hoping I will be notified when it happens by posting here.

Hi. Any update on this?
No update since Jan?

This is a significant limitation. I run a helpdesk support team and would like to be able to put ticketing tools into one of the tabs. We can't have it lose it's place every time the tab is navigated away from.
Any update on when this feature will be relased?

This will allow us to fully move our college employees to Microsoft Teams.
This is what I've been asking in the Github repo but nobody answers until I tried doing the quickstart for the tab. Our team needs to have the similar behavior where the state and progress are not lost. It doesn't make sense if the installed app keeps refreshing. I hope that it will be available soon.
Another request here! I've got a custom app that loads the Outlook Web App and every time I navigate away to the Chat/Teams/Calendar/etc... apps my progress is lost. I'm really trying to get away from the fat Outlook client and replace it with Teams, but I'm unable to leave a partially drafted email (unless saving as draft) and easily return to it because the page reloads every time I re-enter the app.
This is really annoying with the Website app, I have added a number of commonly used sites to one of our teams groups, but it's impossible to have several of them open at any one time and switch between them, since the session is terminated each time one navigates away from the tab
Would love an update on this - really a disappointment that this bug has not been addressed.
To add to this. Switching between tabs also resets session stuff.

This is a bummer, practically cannot use this for anything that you have not to glance but to work with.
Any updates on this?
Even if you keep chat in a breakout so when in a meeting/conference call you can still jump to chat without missing the presentation.
I'm not interested in the desktop client - I use Teams in Chrome and Firefox - the reason being multiple tab support! So please fix it for Chrome!

they've been working on it since January, still the same. i'd rather switch to Google Classroom
Lost my patience now
When it's going to work.
I cant work on Teams this way anymore, super annoying

Is there any update on the progress in providing a patch for this opportunity?

This requested feature is incredibly valuable. It is near impossible to use Teams for collaborative documents when a chat can pull you away from your work.
Please add a pop up window for chats that doesn't navigate you away from your work.
