Teams shortcut is not being added to Start menu App list
After installing Teams via latest executable, the shortcut for the application is not being added to the App list of Start menu. Even Windows Search cannot find it as an installed app. However, it can be found from installed applications via Settings.
Observed on Windows 10 version 1809.

I tried the teams MSI/PreInstall on 29068 version, the shortcut is being created on the desktop when a user logs on, but it doesnt work meaning that it points to a place where Teams.exe cannot be found.
If I rerun teams.exe from C:\program files (x86)\Team Installer\ it works. -

Hi, Downloaded the latest teams msi (build 28562) and installed using no autostart command(msiexec /i Teams_windows_x64.msi OPTIONS="noAutoStart=true) and the command is working as intended but still it is not creating any start menu shortcuts. If we install without using autostart command then it is creating shortcut. Please look into this issue.

Facing same issue. Installed using the command "msiexec /i Teams_windows_x64.msi OPTIONS="noAutoStart=true" and there is no shortcuts available to open the application. Need to run the Teams application manually from “AppData > Local > Micrososft > Teams > Current – Teams ” to open.
The current build version is showing 25457. Where we can download the latest build 28562? -

Where can we get this build 28562? The machine-wide installer and the installer from here https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads are 25457 for me.
Also, we have been having problems with the Outlook add-on disappearing. Hopefully this will be fixed also.

Thanks for confirming, Ilpo!

Hi Alex,
I've updated Teams to the latest build and now the application is listed properly in Start menu and can be found via Windows Search. Thank you for your support!
Best regards,

Had the same problem after setting up a new laptop. Seems like the latest installer just doesn't add any shortcuts anywhere. But I was able to get the shortcut target from my old laptop. All you need to do is right-click on your Desktop, go to New > Shortcut, and paste the entire following path/command in the blank field (replacing [USERNAME] with your own username):
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe --processStart "Teams.exe"
Then change the shortcut name from Update.exe to Microsoft Teams for ease of identification. Note: this works for me on Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit build 1803. It should work on previous versions of Windows, but I don't have any to test with.
I also noticed you can't drag this shortcut to the Start menu, but you can right-click on the shortcut and select "Pin to Start" (to place it in the group of tiles on the right side of your Start menu). This action should also add it to your profile's Programs folder (C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs), but it may still not be listed under All Programs... maybe a reboot will fix that, I'm not sure. Either way, though, pinning it to start definitely adds the shortcut to the Start menu's tiles, at least.

win10 1803 64bit/teams 64bit MSI installation. having same issue. teams does not create shortcuts after installation. so if a user exits teams from notification area they cannot launch teams again unless they manually navigate to their appdata and find the update.exe/teams.exe or log off and back on.

This is happening to me as well. Windows 10 version 1803, Microsoft Teams Version 1.1.00.25457 (64-bit).
No shortcut added to Start Menu app list, and more recently no record of it being installed inside Settings -> Apps & Features despite the executable files being on disk.
Completely broken, the only way to use Teams now is to reinstall one very use.

Also observed on Windows 10 version 1803. The only way I can launch teams is to re-run the installer...
