Hide the e-mail adresses of guests
To be GDPR compliant we would like to hide the guests e-mail adresses by default in Teams.

We hear this more and more from our clients who use teams and prospects who want to.

This is a very important feature! We've chosen Microsoft for our school because of it being compliant with the privacy regulations (GDPR). Now we have noticed parents who are added as guests can see each others email adresses (not so GDPR proof). We've had complaints about this en had to remove some parents. It would be great if this issue could be solved.

Similar to below, working with vulnerable adults and young people to develop services. Having safeguarding responsibilities, a lack of this feature is prohibiting us from utilising Teams to work with our stake holders at a time where people need to be involved in how we support them. we have strict restrictions of software, with MST being the only one approved as yet for collabotative digital working.

As a Children's Charity supporting families and young people, privacy is paramount. Please add to the road map asap.

As a training provider, this is one of our main stumbling blocks with moving forward with Teams as our classroom. One of the big advantages of Moodle is that such things can be easily hidden but we need a collaborative element that Teams would bring us without having t set up hundreds of organisational accounts for our short term learners. Ideally, we want a single place for our learners to access and share resources, but showing a learner email address is not conducive.

any news on this.... I am getting bombarded on a daily basis on users who are desperate to use Zoom, which we have blocked across our entire organisation but this is now really causing us problems and my Zoom vs Teams battle is now becoming a harder fight

Surely there must be a way to hide guest emails in this day and age of technology?
Please can you look into this as a matter of urgency.
Thank you. -

I've raised this issue with the MS Privacy team but just a cold response. This is very critical. I would suggest all those concerned to email CDOC Case Management at cdoccm@microsoft.com
The more the people raise this issue with the Privacy team, hopefuly they will understand the seriousness of this issue and do something about it. -

We build a User Forum with Teams and want to hide all users with guest status. Only manager users should be seen with contact details.

Agree across the board. This should be standard. A guest email address is personal and can link to all manner of identity information, plus opens the guest up to unwanted communication from other guests. The admin at least should be able to control the visibility, easily and immediately.

Whether it's a GDPR issue or not, when we invite individuals to our online courses we have our own privacy policies that means other peoples personal contact information should be within their own control, not shared inadvertently through the use of a tool such as Teams.
It's not just GDPR, any schools using this should be aware of Safeguarding issues that may facilitate online bullying etc.
In the UK, Zoom has been in the cross-hairs of the press during the lockdown recently; I'm sure Microsoft won;t want their own privacy issues being scrutinised in the press in a similar way negating some of their current marketing spend on Teams.

I'm not sure that a guest having access to the contact details of other participants is a data breach - looking at the definition of a personal data breach in GDPR there has to be a breach of security leading to unauthorised disclosure etc. i.e. cause and effect
The question of necessity may arise; however, if a system displays names by default then it could be argued that necessity exists given the functionality of the system,.
There perhaps should be rules for admitting guests and giving people the opportunity to withdraw if they are unhappy that a guest is to be admitted

Please prioritise this work. Colleagues moving away from Teams because of GDPR fears.

This is absolutely important. Showing email addresses amounts to a data breach. Hiding email and other personal info must be implemented immediately.

This function is essential for my business model as a hub between two businesses with regular interaction between teams from at least two different companies.

Same here- this would be huge to creating communities of many different organizations within Teams!
