Screen sharing is not convenient. Need to make call to share.
Can share screen without making call.

I see this connected more or less with this quite popular request:
But actually I would prefer this approach here as the more generic one.

I would title this "Show call and screen share icons/actions by default on new chat", and categorize it as a bug. But I support the general idea here.
On a new chat after I enter the user name, all the action icons (video call, call, screen share) are missing. If you simply click into the message box, they appear. So two things:
* I should not have to start a new chat to start a new screen share
* If I do have to start a new chat to start a new screen share, just show the icons please without making me click in to an empty message box to see them. Thanks.
While I feel the title and description could be more strongly worded, this is essentially what I came here for.
Skype behaved in a useful way, where the screen-share-stage seemed to operate entirely independently of the call status, participants, etc... if nothing else, this meant that you could set up a share even if you were alone on a call. Very useful for getting ready.
Current Teams behavior appears to be to gray out the "share screen" button until a call is active.
one of the most frequent things we do at my firm is screen sharing (but the problem below is the same for other connections). If I'm talking on the phone (a real phone) with someone and i want to start a screen share, i go to chat (not obvious for the use-case but teachable), click the "New Chat" button which is waaay up away from where anyone expects it to be(and extra small... make it as big as my picture), type in the username and no options for video call, audio call or screen sharing. if i click on the upside-down carrot on the right... TWICE, i get the options. can't you just put them there so i don't have to teach ANOTHER quirk? ALSO hovering over the icons for video, audio, screen sharing don't have tool-tips. the same buttons have tool-tips if you click on someone on your recent list. if you don't see this behavior, QUIT teams, relaunch and select someone you've never chatted with.
