Syncing with an external or guest account
"Syncing with an external or guest account" is currently not supported by OneDrive - our company works extensively with external suppliers and we MUST be able to provide a cloud storage option with syncing by adding guest users to our MS Teams. Please add the function for Microsoft Accounts, added as guest to business MS Teams, to sync Team / Sharepoint files and folders.

I would like my external customers to be able to save the OneDrive files that I have shared with them in the local personal OneDrive and collaborate with me directly, not that they are obliged to buy an Offive subscription to have this function available.

Apparently it is supported "Business to Business". But this is not enough. Most of the our collaborators belong to an organization which does not have a "Microsoft 365 work or school account (in Azure AD)". This way we cannot use onedrive, so we have to get another product from another company.
At least, meanwhile you do not fix this a message saying "Your account does not allow to sync with this sharepoint due to the following reasons: bla bla bla" when you click "sync" in the sharepoint address would be nice. Now when the external user receives the link everything works apparently fine, you go to "sharepoint" you click the sync link and no error message is received, but nothing happens, this is disconcerting since the users do not know if there is something wrong with their setup or they something wrong -

Can anyone test this contermeasure?

Allow external users to sync document libraries
External users are unable to sync document libraries unless they are individually given read access to the root SharePoint site. External users should be able to sync documents without this step.

In a world of today not being able to Sync shared documents with external users with whatever kind of Microsoft account is one of the biggest missed opportunities for OneDrive/SharePoint

Apparently this works if you don't have MFA turned on but my organization does...

What is needed is to sync files with any Microsoft personal account.
As it is at the moment, when you click on sync button in sharepoint with a personal Microsoft account, nothing happens.
It has nothing to do with Azure B2B, as seems to be used only for when the guest user doesn't have a Microsoft account. If the user is registered with a Microsoft account (personal) they still can't sync document libraries in sharepoint

It looks like this is being addressed in preview capabilities. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/b2b-sync and
https://docs.microsoft.com/sharepoint/sharepoint-azureb2b-integration-preview. -

Voted & commented on an idea addressing the underlying cause here:https://office365.uservoice.com/forums/264636-general/suggestions/31371565-allow-external-users-to-synchronise-sharings-with. Not sure if these could/should be merged & their votes added...

I don't believe this, We need to setup a team for project with different company, the only member within our company and share cloud based file.
A total waste, Please fix ASAP. -

Second that.

@Anonymous: B2B Sync only works for guest users from Exchange domains, so it won't work if they're using Microsoft/gsuite/etc. It should be able to work with all guest accounts IMO.

Isn't this working? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/b2b-sync

Very hard for users to understand that this is not possible - especially when they're used to do this in Dropbox, etc.
We need it for private Microsoft Accounts too.

I think we also need this function for guest access provided from one organisational tenant to another. This is a hurdle to modern business collaborative relationships and drives selection of alternative collaboration platforms.

And the Microsoft support link that gives a full list of all OneDrive sync restrictions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/3125202/restrictions-and-limitations-when-you-sync-files-and-folders
