Drag and drop Contacts from one group to another
You should be able to Drag and drop Contacts from one group to another and Alt/Option Drag and drop to copy a contact from one group to another.
This functionality is essential to make Teams contacts friendlier to navigate

Allow drag and drop contacts from one group to another in MS Teams.
This is a complete nightmare.. the simple fact that I can't intuitively manage and interface with my contacts list is unbelievable. The method listed about doesn't exist on my version of Teams.
I can't create a filter for contacts, I can't arrange them in any order, I can't sort them by status, whereas with Skype, all that was possible. Skype was very easy to use and most of the features you would need are very easy to use and find.
Please start with the user interface and work backwards! We are being forced by our organisation to migrate to Teams. A lot of users have been holding off.
Please implement this very basic feature!
Together with the possibility of renaming external contacts with user-friendly names: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/37647307-external-contacts-not-displayed-with-friendly-nam
Otherwise it makes no sense to even start using the contact organizer in Teams...

i am surprised and frustrated that this doesn't already exist. Now I have to delete and re add quite a few contacts.. I would have thought this would be a fairly basic feature
This is a much needed feature , disappointed with Teams for missing this out.
This needs to be addressed as the UI is not user friendly. No Drag and Drop in teams?? This is a painful process

This is Fundamental UI Behaviour that is missing.
I can drag a contact, I see a Drag-Copy mousepointer, but no drop target is active on the other contact groups. What is the point of being able to drag if you can't drop?
Also, why can't I drag to rearrange the contact groups? There is no means of changing the order of the groups. Favourites is ALWAYS at the top followed by your groups in alphabetical order. Do I REALLY have to name my most used group "1 Work" to make it come to the top? In 2020?
Another missing piece of standard user interface behaviour.
I have found a few basic things in Teams not implemented so far and for so long. I see the same issue, i.e. the drag and drop" raised as recent as April 2020 and dating back to Jan 2019 in this forum. If this product cannot out-rival Skype in the basic features, (a) we are disappointed (b) not a good way of branding a new product (c) at the least, Teams should identify new features and a time frame for implementation. This would allow us to decide if it is the opportune time now to migrate. We all remember how Microsoft duped/forced us to switch over to W10 with so many bugs floating around a few years back and gave headaches to countless people. It is in the best interests of Microsoft not to create disappointed users! and surely this pays in the long run.
We should be able to add a group chat name group to the contacts l
ist? Can this be done?
And -- the drag and drop instructions above do not work. Combined with a prompt for "Copy" but then it won't paste. Brutal. I have hundreds of contacts and need to move them around depending on the project.
What the heck. I expected like-for-like with Skype, and I added all my contacts in a big bunch expecting to drag them where I need them -- and -- CAN'T. Who the heck missed this - and it's been noticed FOR OVER A YEAR.... since Jan 2019 on this thread. C'mon people!!!
basic UX feature NOT available, raised as feature request in 2018, strange :(
Wow!! What a waste of time... not being able to drag contacts from one group to another. What are we working with here???!! Guess I better get out my 5 and a quarter inch floppy disks to organize my data! Extremely puzzling Microsoft!
This is a no-brainer. Just about everything these days provides drag-and-drop between common items, like Contact lists. MS Teams allows me to put Recent Chat contacts into the Favorites group from the '...' menu, but they can be put into no other Chat Contact groups. 'What??' I have a default 'Favorites' group FULL of contacts, and 11 EMPTY custom Contact groups that I cannot populate without manually entering each contact one-by-one, when they are right there in the same window next to each other. Please be more thorough with your design.
Skype for Business has this.

how in the world is that not something? you have to search the person, add it to the new group and then delete it from the old group, totally ridiculous experience.

In Skype this was there, now they forgot to even implment the basics
I was amazed when I saw this wasn't supported
