Ability to Mute a Conversation Thread
Please allow the ability for individual users to mute replies to a thread they have participated in. Allow this to be a toggle located under the three dot menu or an additional hover button.

Muting of conversation threads is available to the public. Just like muting a chat, turning off notifications to a channel conversation will stop you from receiving updates for that specific conversation.
To turn off notifications for specific conversations
- Go to the beginning of a conversation in a channel
- Go to the top right corner of the original message in the conversation thread and select More options … > Turn off notifications.

Oh, this can't get here fast enough. I'm getting spammed with a message thread I really don't care about this morning and it's killing me.

@Ross - It would stop you from getting any further notifications everytime someone comments.

I'm curious, what would this actually do? You've already received whatever notifications came from it since that's probably the only reason you know you were @mentioned. What would unmentioning actually help?

Great idea! Especially when someone @ mentions the entire team to ask a Q where they don't know who can answer.

Add an option to conversation threads that allows @mentioned users to "unmention" themselves. This will be particularly useful where the user has been mentioned incorrectly (i.e. the wrong John Smith is mentioned) and where the user's part in the conversation has naturally ended and they no longer need to see updates for the thread.

Woohoo. So sorely needed Hopefully it’s quick and not a 6 months out deal ;)

We have just moved to teams and multiple users in our organization have already asked for this. Looking forward to seeing it be included!
I think we'd like it that by default you're following all the conversations in a channel when you're following that channel and then if you don't want notifications for a particular conversation you can "Mute" that conversation but still get notifications for other/new conversations.

I am considering uninstalling teams because it is SO intrusive - mainly because I can't unfollow a conversation. Once in, IN Forever!

I see this as a mandatory feature for a product like this. I stay out of conversations in MS Teams because I can't predict when a thread will get busy and constantly notify me, and there's nothing I can to do fix the problem once it's happened. I'm stuck with the spam notifications.
A conversation application which incentivizes people to avoid getting into conversations is a non-starter.

This is something that I would really like to see, there is a large conversation thread going on for a project that I have no interest in however still get the notifications on my cell phone and my computer.

Great idea!
Sometimes I get mentioned in a thread but I'm only needed to clarify one piece of info. ✅
Then the conversation continues and it doesn't involve me anymore but I keep getting notified. ⛔🗣

By default can be useful as an option... (not switched on by default). An option to mute random conversation replies would be useful though...

I'm in favour of that, I don't care about the time limit. Some conversations (I'm assuming the refers to what the tooltips refer to as "messages" and the replies on it) are not relevant to all people in a team. I agree that muting mentions should not be done with the same settings (if possible at all)

HipChat functionality has the ability to leave a room, and now that I’m looking at Teams I’m thinking the only way we could avoid getting needless notifications is to make a Team private. This might prove to be a barrier to adoption!

Mute conversation reply notifications by default if not the original poster or @mentioned. This is default in Slack and would cut down on unnecessary alerts so you aren't notified of every reply to every conversation in a channel.

Great to see this already here with a few votes. This is exactly what I want to see. A mute feature which is CONVERSATION based.
My ideal scenario would be a single 'mute' icon which is shown on each notification box. Clicking this would activate your default mute option for that conversation. Personally, my default option would be 'mute until I am @mentioned'; but other options may also be useful like mute for one hour, mute until tomorrow, mute forever...

I agree. There are times when I need to focus that I'd like to turn off notifications temporarily without having to go back in and turn them back on. That's too easy to forget.
