Introduce breakout room functionality
We have a business requirement for breakout rooms with live events. The idea is pretty simple - we plan to use live events to host internal staff training webinars and as part of that, at times we will ask for small groups of people (typically 4-5) to go away into a breakout room and come back to the group with their answer/idea.
We would like to see this functionality be introduced to Microsoft Teams for not only live events but also video calls. This would provide feature parity with pre-existing tools such as Zoom, WebEx and many more which would be a cost saving for us.
Features we would expect as part of breakout rooms would be as follows:
- Option to assign users to a specific room
- Option to random assign users to a specific room
- Presenters/producers can switch between rooms
- Breakout rooms have a time limit for how long they last before everyone being bought back to the group
- The ability to appoint a moderator of a breakout room
- The ability to record each and every room separately (This is a dream ask)
Happy to provide more detail as required.
We are excited to announce that Breakout Rooms are now generally available for all customers. An news about release date?
Dear Microsoft 365-Team,
I am just wondering if there are any further developments concerning the breakout-rooms for MS Teams?
We are really looking forward to using this tool!
I can't tell you how frustrating this is...Zoom kicks butt compared to the team functionality. Our IT dept. won't support Zoom so I am stuck trying to do end runs around the limited capabilities of Teams. I have been hearing forever that the breakout rooms are coming. When?! It sounds like the feature is available, yet I still can't access it. It shouldn't be this hard to figure this stuff out for a user and a customer. We are expected to perform miracles as educators in this virtual world...it would certainly help to have access to the tools necessary to make these miracles happen. When is this really going to be available to the general population?
Would be great to have the ability for others besides the original organizer (who may not attend) to be able to also set up breakout rooms.
Is there going to be a way that We could create a room that still is able to see and hear the main room but is able to be muted? I need to work with a student 1:1 virtually but still need access to the main classroom. We have done the channels but then we can't participate in the main class.
I would like to limit using Microsoft Teams Breakout Rooms announced in MC224343.

The rollout has been postponed from October to November.
Can you be more specific as to when exactly?
I would highly appreciate this feature
I hope the feature is still on track for the planned November release for everybody (not just education) and worldwide?
Please roll out your breakout rooms ASAP as geting negative feedback from staff participating in training in NHS via MT
Thank you for deciding the operation as a teams.
It was announced that it will be operational in November, but we are looking forward to it working soon.

Has anyone had problems with the chat function when you invite members of a team to a meeting in a channel? We have a problem that many members dont get the chat function in theese kind of meetings.
any news on when the breakout rooms feature will be available in the MENA region? The roadmap said September/October but still no news as of yet and it is almost November.
the only thing that comes up is a highly manual method that requires creating meetings across a team space & a bunch of channels under it. WHEN IS the versions in this video coming to Prod business tenants : https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/video-hub/master-virtual-breakout-rooms-in-microsoft-teams-meetings/m-p/1689437
