It's hard to keep track of individual threads
It's hard to keep track of individual threads. It would be so much better if we had a reference by thread number (as a ticket number in some helpdesk apps)
E.g., someone has marked me as a a stakeholder in a thread. I read the thread but did not have time to respond. The only option I have now is to make the thread unread, which is not right. I should be able to flag this thread for future response (a "todo" flag) and should be able to refer to this thread easily by a number. E.g. "Look at the thread #987, I'm still waiting for your response.
It would be even better if you could actively solicit a response from someone of from several persons. Then these people would have these requests on their "todo" list. And they have to actively respond before the flag is cleared.

Agreed. Threads are a complete travesty. I've had SO MANY conversations jump threads because it's very difficult to pick the correct reply text box or sometimes even just find the thread I was in earlier.
Microsoft: fix your thread presentation! put threads in a sidebar or something. This is nuts.
