Search function is slow
The search functionality is slow compared to the same function in Slack. It would be very helpful to decrease the time associated with searching within the search bar.

Yeah, this is and has always been awful. I get that it's harder but I dunno, figure it out. Let us create a massive index on our Sharepoint or something to speed it up. Make it so the entire program doesn't become completely unusable while it performs a search. Or, even if I go back to the Teams program with a previously completed search, and try and close it, I have to seemingly wait for it to repeat the entire search, lock up all over again, just so I can close the search and go back to using the program.

Yeah the features so slow and laggy when search and select the search results it will take ages to load don’t know where they stores all the chat history. Don’t know why maybe Microsoft should acquired Slack if they cannot fix this. Teams I can say the worst chat app that I ever used

Agreed, this is still an issue and is a major usability problem when searching old chats (which is a quite common need). It is slow to the point of crashing Teams and/or hanging it up for 5+ minutes, even on a FAST machine with plenty of CPU, RAM and an M2 SSD. Microsoft really needs to get this fixed!
The problem is not the search itself but it's going to the result which is slow (the chat history is slow in general). I've even had Teams crashing when going through the results.
You are advertising how valuable it is to be able to find information from old conversations about the topics you are interested in and the app really finds this information. However, loading it for you to read it is almost impossible which totally invalidates the feature.
It's so slow to look up old chat. I liked how it would send me an email so I could at least recall it faster in later time. This is horrible

I know this is an old one but it's still an issue and came up highly in a Google search for "microsoft teams search very slow". The search itself is fairly quick on the desktop app, but opening a result to see the content is ridiculously slow and usually locks everything up. I've found that using the website instead (teams.microsoft.com) is much better - try that if you're having issues.
wish there was an option to optimize the cache. when i search something, the whole Teams goes lagging for an hour. even if im not scrolling through search results anymore.
After I found a somewhat related search result, I am now scrolling the messages to the exact message I was searching for. It's been 20 minutes. The chat history is that slow.

Chats, file lists and previous search indexes are small and easily cached locally. They should be kept locally for speed reasons and for search. Search should check the cache first, present results, and then go to the server for additional information.
