Allow us to mute individuals but just from our point of view
Please let us mute individuals during a call. This is not the same as muting that person for everyone in the meeting but just for the person doing the muting. This prevents two people who are next to each other in a meeting from hearing an echo of each other. There are many situations/occurrences where we use our personal computers to be in the same meeting instead of sharing a computer, and Teams doesn't let us mute the person that is sitting right next to us.
Need this so much! I really can not comprehend what is being said when I hear that echo.
Especially now we go hybrid remote we need this more than ever before!
I also do not understand why this feature is not available. Now Microsoft buys Discord. They have this feature for so long. So come on, you are a mega company, Microsoft, you will solve this Challenge!

This is an essential feature for me, muting the person in the same room and avoid echo
Yes, often we are in the same room but not close enough to see the same computer or use the same microphone. The audio delay when some else speaks in the room makes it nearly impossible to comprehend what is being said.
It would be great if users could designate that they are in the same room and the system could optimize how the speakers and microphones work in the room as well as eliminating the echo.
I'm not sure how all this would work but there are smarter folks out there than me :)
this so useful (even without Covid19) !!! when all in my office-room (3 people) enter a call.. i hear everything twice with a ~0.5s delay in between. Headache.
Please solve that!
> This is a COVID-19 feature
This is a feature that would make the lives of partially-distributed teams much easier regardless of COVID-19 pandemic.
BTW: there is a duplicate feature request here: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/39944977-personalised-muting
This is a COVID-19 feature
We need to have this feature. People have been asking for this for over 2 years now. I'm sure there are technical issues with implementing this but honestly this is something that should have been implemented from launch.
How is this still not a feature? Or rather: How is this lack of functionality still not fixed?
Client side individual volume settings/muting has been aroud since probably the first Beta version of Teamspeak ...

This is soooo annoying! Imagine a team of let's say 20 people in a shared office. You hear them personally and also with a little delay in teams. I think my head is going to explode anytime soon. 🤯
Using one device is NOT an option.
I hope this gets more attention.

Come on Microsoft, you can do this on Xbox

This is a very important feature. I work in a shared workspace environment in which we have meeting on daily basis and often people who sit next to me are on the same meetings.
I really so annoying to hear them talk then lag moments later to hear them speak on the call.
This is a MUST feature. If you implement this before Skype you will win the race to the top.
I imagine this is a technical challenge because of the way the audio must work. Individual streams would go to the server and then volume adjustment and mixing would happen there and a single, mixed audio stream is produced and sent to all participants. So each time a user activates a mute, the server would have to create a brand new stream, just for the participant, and smoothly transition between this and the normal stream.
I think the benefits would be worth the effort of implementation. In broadcast, this technique of sending all the audio to the location except the audio coming from the location is called 'mix minus.'

If I'm sitting in the same room as someone, it's maddening to have to hear them twice or share all of their audio/video settings.
Was just looking at the same request in the Skype for Business user section and it had thousands of votes and responses, with not a single response from MS. Yet in the replacement it's still not a feature, almost all my meetings are Skype with some people in the room with me and this feature would be so helpful. We has all assume that the reason we were being ignored on the issue was that the feature would turn up in Teams....judging by this thread we were wrong.
We really need this feature! i think Microsoft has a lot to learn from Discord when it comes to a smooth chat and call functionality
Really need this - couldn't believe it wasn't a feature already when I searched for it.
This is an important feature for my users, that should also be reasonably easy to implement. Rooms with conference hardware are just not always an option, especially when doing meetings with some of the attendees in an open office space or room without sound treatment.
Examples of good implementations would be TeamSpeak and Discord (which are both not suitable for use in our case).
In Discord this is called 'Local Muting' and the option is found right where all other interactions (Kick other user from call, chat with other user...) with that attendee are located.
please implement. I'm tired of hearing people twice
We absolutely need this feature. Experience of hearing someone twice (when being in the same room) is horrible, especially on longer calls.
