turn off sounds
I want to be able to TURN OFF notification sounds. I don't mind the visual notification, but the sound is very distracting. I want to be able to concentrate on what I'm doing without the constant distraction of the sounds.
I just found this vote today, after having to listen to constant bleeping in a department meeting with 250 people. And this vote is 'only' 2 years old? What the frog, Mickeysoft. FIx this!!! Shut this app up.
A propos, the suggested solution to mute the 'Meeting Notifications'does NOT work...

I can't believe something so basic was not implemented. I hate sound notification, it messes up my concentration but I can't turn down the sound because the calling sound is important and I need some sound for videos and other tools.
This is very basic setting which was expected by MS for TEAMS. Hope they enroll it soon in next updates.

I've found that the audible notification is making me a much less productive worker.
Kind of surprising that the UI/UX team who designed MS Teams didn't even consider this?
The setting don’t work...Mute is on, notification sounds are off and this thing keeps pinging.....how do I make it stop?

My issue is that my bluetooth headset is connected to my laptop and my cell, so if I'm on a cell phone call and someone starts a Teams meeting that I'm a part of, the banner appears, my cell call get put on hold, and I hear the audible chime that the meeting is started. It takes about 10 seconds for the Teams banner to "hang up" and my headset switches back to my cell call. There is no notification that I can see, short of disabling the Meeting Started Notification all together.
Found this thread looking for a solution (and can commiserate on the collective annoyance!!!) ...and after tinkering, looks like there's finally a way to do it:
1. Click on your profile pic in the top right-hand corner of Teams
2. Select "Settings"
3. Go to "Notifications."
4. Scroll to the the "Meetings" heading (section below "Other")
5. Click the drop-down beside "Meeting Notifications"
6. Set to MUTE.

For god's sake, please make it an option to mute notification sounds *while in a call/meeting*, and make it the default!
People don't want to hear the beeps/rings in the background while they're on a meeting, or a live event!
The ability to have either the sound or the banner should be available. I do not understand why you can only have both on or both off. Make these settings independent of each other. When sharing my screen on a video call I do not want chats popping up, but I do want the sound.
I have the exact opposite problem. I want to keep the sound and be able to shut off the visual notifications as they take up too much of my screen.
I have weekly conference calls. My clients call into a bridge that we put on the speaker within my conference room so the client can hear us. When at times we run a video through Teams....I get a lot of feed back. How can I prevent that from happening? Do I need to turn of speaker of mic! So frustrating
This needs to be implemented in Teams for Linux.
When it is implemented, I will need to hear sounds for calls but also to be able to mute message sounds, as requested on other platforms.
Fyi for those who have posted here, there is a setting to turn off sounds for chats, mentions and calls in the Teams>Settings>Notifications

Please allow me to listen to my music w/o the endless pinging sounds of the chat

Damn this is still not implemented in Android...WTF? This is such a basic requirements for any communication app...really hate it and hate it more that I have to use it, MTF...

In Mac's desktop app, click on your profile picture on the top right.
Settings > Notifications > Other > Notification sounds > Off
I want my calls to ring audibly, but I do NOT want notification sounds for mentions and chats. Currently they are bundled, and I can't turn off the distracting noises without also missing my calls if I'm not looking at my screen.
What Peter B said:
@microsoft please allow users to allow what sounds they wish to hear under your drop down instead of having ALL, Call mention or chat or Off
Why not have a section of notification sounds
calls > on/off
mentions > on/off
chat > on/off
posts > on/off
channels > on/off
This would resolve most of the users issues here..
wow... agreed. Nothing to add but glad to have found a solution for the temporary madness induced by pinging...even if I can't hear the calls coming in at this point
