Allow rearranging contacts and groups
The new contact list is now live but it's missing the ability to rearrange contacts and groups by drag and drop like you can now do with teams and recent conversations.
I have quite a few contacts and large groups so sorting them would be very useful.
Please at least get rid of the auto expanded contact groups. Leave them collapsed or as setup by the user. To get around the alphabetical ordering, I put a number "of my choice" in front of the group name, this is the only way to order them as you like. e.g. 1_Planning Team, 2_A&E.
Surely it's a 10 minute job :-)

Absolutely unbelievable something so basic is not implement. Now imagine, having some 200 EXTERNAL contacts and having to re-search them all, one by one, to add to each relevant group. Preposterous.

Yes, I'm not loving this retro feel to Contacts.
Like most of Teams but this is a let down
It does seem strange that this capability is not built into Contacts in the Teams app. As a workaround I found that since the Groups are listed in alphabetical order by renaming the groups with a number- at the beginning of the group name I can reorder the way they are displayed.
It is unbelievable this is still not implemented!!!
We need the ability to create groups and arrange them completely freely on our "calls page"
I agree, I have frustrated employees who are trying to use Groups, you can't move the group up and down to prioritize groups of contacts. Skype for Business much better. Complicating a good thing. Other features in Teams Nice, but the long standing way of grouping people and orders needs to be simplier.
Also just was forced over and now my target teams that I work with regularly are mixed amoung all my many groups....
Please allow us to sort groups or at least make a group a Favorite so it shows at the top.
Yes me too, I have just been migrated and it is irritating. To be expected though from MS. I want to arrange my contacts easily and freely.
I don't understand why in Microsoft Outlook you can sort contacts various ways and you can't in TEAMS. MS is obviously trying to push everyone to the single platform of TEAMS. MS if you want to do that you have to keep the same features. TEAMS sucks because you fail to keep simple features like sort. I can't even sort my TEAMS members in a group. It makes it impossible with a large members group to figure out if I missed adding someone's name.

There needs to be a simple drag & drop mechanism for arranging contacts like there is in Skype. I have just been migrated to Teams from Skype. I am learning Teams now and I am very disappointed that I cannot arrange my contacts in the order I need them.
It also makes me crazy that every time I return to the contacts all the groups are expended again. Is there really no way to make the groups stay collapsed until I expand one?!?
Please sort this - its clearly a bug - someone overlooked a basic requirement and this shoud not be on backlog - get a programmer to sort it !
What's distressing here is how long ago this topic started, and how nothing has been done about it.
From this and a few other topics it's clear the customer wants the contact handling that Skype had.
Not listening to your customers is a good way of becoming irrelevant Microsoft!!

We just moved from Skype to Teams. What a step back it is. This is one of the many things Skype had that made it a much more productive solution than Teams. Need this for teams.

David, I see you made a comment yesterday stating
"Reported in June 2018. Put in the backlog in September 2019. March 2020."
Is this saying the issue will be resolved March 2020?

Why is the feature the re-arrange contact into different groups not in place? To re-arrange now I must delete my contacts, and add them again in the right group. Serious?

I need the ability to custom sort contact groups by dragging & re-ordering. Also, would like the ability to delete the "Favorites" group. I've added all my frequent contacts to one of the many custom groups I created, leaving the Favorites group empty and just taking up space at the top.
Why is this still not done?! The inconsistency of groups across the application makes it confusing.
The Chat contacts is best so far. I put a two digit number in front of the group names and the groups get sorted in the sequence as expected. However, as someone mentioned below, we need the ability to collapse the groups and they should stay collapsed.
The Calls tab contacts are a complete mess. There are no groups at all. Many people have lots of contacts and the ability to group is a requirement.
The Speed dial allows groups, but it does not keep them sorted properly. And again, collapsed groups must stay collapsed.
Microsoft, please fix the above issues and Teams will become much more usable!

We are transitioning from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams and not having this basic feature is really a letdown.
