Allow rearranging contacts and groups
The new contact list is now live but it's missing the ability to rearrange contacts and groups by drag and drop like you can now do with teams and recent conversations.
I have quite a few contacts and large groups so sorting them would be very useful.

It would be important to me that the groups are always collapsed when starting teams and that you can arrange / sort the groups by yourself.
BUMP - this feature is really necessary for work - why on earth didn't they include sorting of speed dials? Yet again - a decent program (skype) ruined by MS.

I have numerous groups as well and being able to arrange the groups i contact most will be great, however it would also be nice to not have to collapse every group every time i select contacts. this seems like it would be a given since this type of functionality is available in other Microsoft products like Outlook when you group your emails. Please push this issue up and out of the backlog as my company will be moving over to Teams 100% soon, as i am sure lots of other companies are as well since support for Skype is ending this month.

What the ****!?
Why can't you just add a simple sort to the contact groups in MS Teams?
Another "feature" that consumes time on a daily basis!
Please add this natural feature asap.
Would certainly be very useful to be able to sort contact and groups, or must we keep using numbers in the front of the Name - Please add this feature soon TY
Can Microsoft also please ensure that when we add a new contact we can type immediately and not of to select the text field first before typing.
this is driving me crazy, I want to cry every time I need to contact someone!
And Crickets from Microsoft for over two years. Well done!
Happy 2nd birthday to this request.

Yes the contact list needs to be improved. What's annoying is that the favorites are always at the top and default to fully expanded so my groups are way low on the screen, which means extra clicking to collapse the favorites to get to my other groups. In the current form, it is very difficult to organize contacts.
Workaround - Just rename the group an insert number before the name...

My company just moved to Teams. I'm considering quitting.
Such a simple feature, and it's missing. Not to mention the relative BLOAT of this software. How many applets do we want to add to this? NONE. We just want to IM.
This software just follows Microsoft's habit of relying on paying customers to complete their beta testing of new products. They've been doing it since Windows ME (Win8/Win10/Teams/etc).
This software is ****.
Is there an ETA for when this issue will be fixed?
Such a basic feature - Microsoft has a significant way to go with Teams - question will become how long big companies will put up with this before switching to slack or other products.
Cannot begin to describe how ANNOYING the lack of this feature is!!
It's the first thing I looked to do when our company started with Teams and …. it isn't there!
Wow! MS Teams have not option to allow rearranging contacts and groups. I'm really disappointed.
Further more on first use it would be useful to sync existing contacts and groups from Skype and / or Outlook. At least it would buy you time to develop the functionality to manage contacts and groups properly ...although I notice this bug has been on the backlog for almost 10 months already <insert face palm emoji>

Common sense suggestion and great comments - devs please note. Who thought an always-expanded, unsortable, non-draggable list was a good idea? Also look at Skype's (and many other) comm functions of hiding users based on connection/status to keep these lists manageable.
For my use case I want to add business units/stakeholder groups so that if I need to speak to a rep/ask for support I can press chat - contacts - group - _bang_ there is the person available right now I can call or contact directly without spamming a channel and waiting.
Yes I know I can also Manage Team - Members to check multiple status at once, but that's not very nice, and doesn't work with pinned teams anyway so you'd have to scroll through teams to find the right one. For some people I don't even know what team they are in or have access to it, so contact lists it is.
I also strongly feel need of this.
