discussion board
I'd like to create a discussion board or forum within teams for my students.
I can't seem to find a tab for this. Id prefer it not to be a third party app either. Given all the other comunication features I'm very suprised that this isn't possible.
Cheers

How is a "Forum" different from a Channel in Teams? Would you have multiple forums under a Channel?

We at Forever Group (https://www.forever-group.co.uk/microsoft/) are big fans of Microsoft and and Microsoft Teams, and I honestly think that this is a great suggestion. Especially for our education clients.

I can't change the virtual background picture until I have joined and I'm in the MS Team's call. I don't want my natural or real background to be first visible to others before I switch to a virtual one. Is there a way to default a virtual background? Perhaps, if I need to switch to another virtual background while I'm in the call, that would be anyway possible.

I can only pull out sites like https://devicebase.net/en/microsoft-teams when searching google for a discussion/forum feature within Teams which obviously is not what I'm looking for (don't get me wrong, the community is helpful in most user questions about Teams). Is there an update to this? Or do we have official statements or concrete plans from Microsoft that'll make this possible in the near future? I've been stalking this forum for some time now for news about this.

I'm not sure what others have in mind. I know I can create a moderated channel so that only I can post the question, but others can reply to it. But what I would like to have is a way to set it so that students must first post before they can see others' posts. A common assignment in high school & college courses is just this sort of thing: A question is posed, and the students must post their answers & then respond to others' posts. The restriction to post first before seeing other posts forces the student to think independently, and then engage in dialogue with others.

As an English literature teacher there are topics or themes of interest to be discussed in a forum, not as an assignment but to make sure that the students are internalizing the learning and understanding of the elements of literature and literary techniques by applying them in an open written discussion forum, giving everyone an opportunity to participate in the dynamics of education. That is why I need the feature from Teams.

I also need a discussion for my students to hold thoughtful collaborative communication about work. It would be great if I could approve before it was posted for the entire class to see (that way I could make sure it was on topic and appropriate). When i went to college online, there were many discussions platforms used, but I need it to be within teams. A chat will not work. It would also be great if a file could be uploaded but not necessary.

Student 1 should be able to comment on a question and then other students should be able to sub comment on student 1’s initial comment so that we can track ideas rather than it be sprawled everywhere with @ mentions

Yes please! That would be exactly what we need in our company. Is there any update on this or plugins for this yet?

conversations are just not cutting it for me.. people are just not very good at organising discussions into neat little boxes that can be found later and consumed..
conversations just get lost forever and go offtopic all the time.. Without that big subject title reminding you why you are there in the first place...

This would be SUPER helpful for classes! I am trying to find a place where my students can ask and answer each other's questions and then vote for the correct solution. Something like stackoverflow.com. PLEASE INCORPORATE THIS!
If these answers were then searchable in the future, there would be repository of student learning that future students could leverage.
