Allow users to disable webcam by default
Every meeting I join, Teams turns on my webcam and suggests I join with it enabled. This is not the way that anyone I work with wants it to work, and a departure from Skype behaviour as well. Making the setting sticky would be great.
Please disable webcam by default, this is a privacy issue in my opinion.
Please make this happen. It's really annoying.
Please change default behavior, or at least an option to default the camera and microphone off when joining. Not only is there a consideration for privacy (such as here in Germany) but privately I do not want my camera automatically turning on - I would prefer also the microphone being also set to default on mute.
my version of Teams: You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.13565 (32-bit). It was last updated on 6/15/20.
seriously... Microsoft needs to get this done
100% should be default to OFF> This is a bandwidth issue, and many computers do not have the capability to support video while doing the other tasks.
Default to off, and then ALWAYS have a toggle for the user to turn on the camera. Right now it looks like you only see a toggle for video when using the desktop version. FOr mobile, this is especially annoying.
Please allow a default setting to make the camera be OFF. It is a high risk and makes us want to use Skype instead as our default
Agreed, I don't want the camera on and, if I'm working on a metered connection, I'd like to be able to turn off inbound video traffic.
Please make disabled or ask the default for the webcam. This is a privacy and bandwidth issue. The privacy issue is especially important when working in an office with ITAR and EAR requirements. Having the webcam on by default is bad policy, and I will use another platform for meetings until this changes.
For large conference, i always see people joining Teams meeting with Video turned on on Teams client, but disabled in windows, so they have this black imange or a gray camera icon, and i assume that also waste the bandiwth of everyone, it should be default off, or there are some GPO that we can apply.
Teams doesn't find the web cam that is plugged in to my PC.
I have a web cam that works automatically for other meeting apps but Microsoft teams doesn't list it and uses only the Epocam, an app I have on my phone, so I have to go and find my phone, wait for the adverts and prop the phone up somewhere - frustrating when I have a web cam perched in the right position above my monitor.

Should be basic feature, available in most other apps. Typical big company arrogance (we know what's good for you) not to incorporate. Oh how I load that attitude.
This option was "sticky" until a recent update. Now I have to turn the camera off before joining each meeting.
I found in this thread the idea to plug the camera (Logitech C615) directly into my MacBook Air and it worked. When I had it plugged into my dock, it does not work in Teams, but it does work in everything else.

+1. Want the camera to be default off. I don't know why it is difficult for MS to understand this basic configuration. :(
I came there for the same reason, my camea is allways on by default.
i want to specify that it's not the same for my collegues. It look it depends on something unkown...
There should be a default setting or at least remember user last setting. The last update is so annoying.
Something changed in the past 2 days. My camera used to default to off when I joined a Teams meeting. As of yesterday, it defaults to camera on. Likely received an automatic update in a reboot. Not good, for all the reasons listed in other comments.

There needs to be a setting to have default behavior of enabling or disabling the camera for calls.
The camera should at-least have an option to be selected on the default state the user want. Meeting starts disturbing everyone with a big blank screen (since i cover the camera). Kind of annoying. Especially when you have a lot of meetings in a day.

I do not understand the idea behind setting camera default to ON, unless it is a joke by Microsoft developers, to make people ashamed and make them reluctant to using MS Teams (someone wanted to sabotage MS Teams in Microsoft??? in favor of Zoom and other Apps?).
There is the edge which people are not willing to cross and you'll not make them to use video calls more unless their superiors do insist.
While working from home, people are sitting naked or badly dressed or sitting in the toilet and are not willing to reveal that to the audience.
You shold be ashamed for implementing such an option, regardless who pushed you to do that.
A lot of people are asking for the camera to be off by default, which is reasonable for the first time the app is used. But how about an actual setting for the camera so that you can choose how it should behave.
Basic settings that Teams should have for video:
🔘 Turn off my video when joining
🔘 Enable HD
🔘 Mirror video
🔘 Always show video preview when joining a video meeting
🔘 16:9 aspect ratio video frame
🔘 Virtual background (choose image from pulldown menu)
