Hide a user from Microsoft Teams
It would be very beneficial to be able to hide a user from showing as a Microsoft Teams user. Right now it is super confusing for users when old staff members whose mailboxes are still being used show in Microsoft Teams. There is currently no option to hide these users from showing as contacts in chats.

This is much needed feature in the MS Teams.
It's a must have feature.

We are also seeing this issue in our Teams environment causing a user to be improperly tagged in threads and channels. Please implement this with expediency, since it is necessary for users to be able to communicate seamlessly with this product.
We were told that the feature to hide users that are listed in the Global Address List (GAL) cannot be done for Teams yet and will be implemented soon. Only Skype users can be hidden right now.
Microsoft Please can you implement hiding unwanted users on Teams

I really need this. We currently leave a users email functional for about 2 months with automatic replies so customers will know who to contact on their accounts.
Really need this. We invite external users as Azure AD Guests (for other services than Teams) and whenever you start a new chat you see the user twice, both as (Guest) and (External) and it’s very confusing for the user to choose the correct, which should be the external one.

We have two tennants and sometimes we duplicate names for addresses so you might have email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. When you pull up New Conversation you get the persons name "abc" twice with no trailin domain so it's SUPER confusing. This is more of a bug report than a feature suggestion but I'll vote for it anyway. If I hide someone from the GAL they shouldn't show up in teams.

My admin ID gets chats from users. Very frustrating.

This is a much needed feature. At the very least, showing only users with active license.
When assigning license to users, theres the option to turn off specific apps. Teams is already an option but turning it off does just seems to remove the user access.
In addition to turning off the user access, removing them from Teams as a user or searchable user would be beneficial.

This is ridiculous. GAL can hide user accounts - so why would someone implement an ability to look up even the odd service accounts from a chat/collab software?
At least make it so that only people with an active office account show up.
This is very much usefull feature, PLEASE MICROSFT ADD TGHIS FEATURE ASAP

Guest Accounts should only be visible to people which are in the same Team. It's an absolute no-go, that the whole company sees all guest accounts that have ever joined a Team when their searching after members. Please make that works asap! thx!!
I need a way to hide old users...
I hide my users email from GAL and for shared mailbox it works for me but not for mailbox. Looking for update when Microsoft will release this feature.
My company is in the process of incrementally rolling out O365 with Teams and this has been a consistent complaint from end users. We looked at the Scoped Search option but as already pointed out, it is not supported with hybrid environments. Not many want to do big bang migrations and this is a very limiting factor that creates a blemish on an otherwise amazign tool.
Scoped Directory Search may work, but not in a hyrbid environment. Most environemtns are in hybrid mode for some time during migration unless the ehtire organization goes in one big bang:
From the link posted on Scoped Directory Search:
Hybrid configurations (Teams with Exchange on-premises) do not support scoped search mode.

Adding my voice the the thread. Hidden users, Shared Mailboxes, users without a Licence should not be visible in Teams.
It just makes no sense at all.
For my company, it's a no-go factor for a major Teams deployement.

This should be implemented as soon as possible, we have several clients with this issue.
This is DESPARATELY NEEDED!
People in my company are constantly contacting my admin account (which has the same name) and getting annoyed be "me, not answering"... This sucks! :)
