Display the description of the team and channels
Every team and channel has a description that can be entered, yet there doesn't seem to be any way to see that description unless you can edit. How about making the description visible under the title in the right window? Maybe even a setting that allows me to make descriptions visible or not (on/off switch).

As a teacher, I put the names of the assignments that students have for that week in the description of the channel. It would help if students could search the channels to find which week has the assignment in the description. Also, displaying the description when you open the channel would be great as the others have said.

I agree with this...Be good if people could see the Channel Description so they can decide how important it is

AGREE!! We wrote descriptions to support use of various channels and also bit shocked just now noticing that that field is pretty much useless. Any change coming????

We never bothered to write descriptions. Now we revamped part of our structure and formulated descriptions for better orientation. I have to say I was a bit shocked just now noticing that that field is pretty much useless.

I work for Information Technology at a university - we have a Team set up with quite a few channels, One of our managers seems to be almost constantly telling staff that their post belongs in a different Unit's or project's channel. Being able to display channel descriptions could save him a lot of time.

As above this feature is essential and needed asap

Really hard for a trainer in a company to guide employees on the which team is the correct one to find/post information without this information being available for them to see.

Also agree. Teams and channels change over time. Users need to be able to see a complete description of both in order to properly find and post information in the right team.

Same as Rainer below - As a user, I want to be able to look at the description of teams that I have been invited to, so that I can understand why I have been added to the team.

Looks like the canonical suggestion that's gotten MS attention is: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/18556948-editable-teams-and-channels-header

IRC clients have this description banner with text + useful links, do the same please, or remove the description option as it is pointless for now.

Beyond belief even for MicroSoft. An utterly pointless feature promoted when you create a Team so it suggests it's useful but then invisible. Idiotic.

OMG - How long we should wait until the editing of a channel description is it worth at all!? It is simple for a developer to display the channel description as hoover text to a channel name (mouse-over)!

How many votes does it take to get this done?

Uh, yeah, why have a description if it doesn't show up anywhere?

I agree that the channel description should display as a tool tip for the reasons of search ability and being able to identify the use case of a channel.

Yes! I would like to be able to configure tooltip content on channel mouse-over. It could be display channel name (but why?) or channel description, or several other options. It probably makes the most sense to just be able to toggle on/off the channel tooltips to either display the Channel description or nothing at all. Pretty please. :)
It makes no sense for it to re-state the Channel name. We already can see the channel name. I need Team participants to be able to quickly see the point of the Channel.
Thanks! -

You can see a partial description when searching for teams, but when you mouse over to see the full description, it just states 'Join Team.'
I end up having to join the team and then look inside to see if it is something I am interested in or if I was in the correct place.
Make it so when you hover over, the entire description is shown, and move the join button.
