Allow option for opening Office files from Teams directly in the respective desktop Office app
We are planning to use Team as a central user interface for accessing of all related and connected Office 365 tools. Currently, if i open a file in Teams, I have only the options to modify it either in Teams or in the respective online app interface (for e.g. Excel Online). In our company many of the files are bigger and require the desktop apps to be used. So, Id like to have an option directly from Teams to be able to open the file in my needed desktop app (for e.g. directly in Excel 2016). At the moment the only way to achieve this is to first open the file in Excel online and them from there, edit it in Excel desktop.
Indeed, the default when clicking on a file SHOULD be to open on full desktop Office app.
the three buttons menu should then have the options to open in-teams or web apps.
***At least the action of the direct click should be selectable by the user***
This is soooo so badly needed.
I only ever want to edit files in the desktop apps. The online versions of the apps are useless. They have different layouts, less editing options, less tool bars etc etc.
Currently when im sent a link to a file in teams (desktop), I click the link, it opens in teams online (WHY!?) where i have to wait for it to load, then click the 'open in desktop app' button, wait for it to download, close the popup dialog box that appeared in my browser, close that tab and then switch to the desktop app to start editing.
If there was simply an option to choose how you'd like to open the file, then this would solve the issue?

They support it now! Consider this done. :-) It works great!
