High Memory/RAM Usage
Microsoft Teams is currently the most RAM consuming application on my computer
Thank you for your recent votes on the individual performance items. High memory and RAM usage is something we are continuously working to improve, and the team is hard at work on fixes.
If interested, you can find more details on how Teams currently uses Memory at https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/teams-memory-usage-perf.
I concur, there was no reason to split this issue - it all boils down to performance and resource usage. It might not crash if it wasn’t trying to use 1.5 GB of RAM.
I guess an issue with 18k votes was getting to be an issue. I use Teams on a 12 Core 32Gb RAM, NVMe storage workstation and IT.IS.STILL.SLOW. Just try searching a chat thread and see what happens.... ludicrous this hasn’t been resolved in 4 years, likely because it would have to be re-written natively vs using Electron. We have to discourage our customers using it, even if they already have a license under 365.
Teams is idle but consuming > 850MB of RAM for me. Why are so many tasks running simultaneously?
Got over 18,000 votes on the previous 3yr old topic saying that Teams uses WAY TOO MUCH RAM.
I guess that became too embarrassing, so they just blocked further comments and pushed it onto other smaller and less "Hey, my boss might notice 18000 votes" level threads.
Just fix the problem Microsoft!!
It is absolutely ludicrous for a platform to use up >700MB of RAM while it is minimized and in the 'background'.
uses more resources than SQL? we need to work as well as use teams.
Help! Teams is using 850MB of RAM just sitting there, no live comms at the moment And I only have 2 teams In my list. Ugh!

This link https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/teams-memory-usage-perf given by Alex from MS says it is supposed to use the available RAM and free it for other applications when needed. The current reality is that it doesn't do it at all. It is instead using all the RAM and preventing other applications from running correctly.

Teams desktop app booted up and took up to 1.2G, then stabilized at around 650M. I applied all workarounds, including clearing cache, no changes. Comparatively, Google Chrome is at 600M with only one tab open.

Ram usage is very high in Linux. it makes 4GB laptop useless if we open a browser or Teamviewer with Teams running in the background.
This is completely unworkable. Daily occurrences of Teams causing system to hang due to high consumption of system resources. I should not need to manually clear the cache every day. Please fix this ASAP

Think everything works perfectly. Glad to see the Teams takes all the memory it can get up to 90%, in order to give me a good UI experience. I would complain if Teams didn't use all the free memory it wanted when it starts up. On my systems Teams releases memory if I start a memory heavy program. Why have not used memory in a PC, I don't understand the problem.

Yes please work on a fix for this, it is making my device nearly unusable with just teams and an internet browser open.
Teams is almost tied with Chrome as my top memory hog.

Switching between different chats instantly hogs 1.2Gb memory and 60% cpu. Then drops back down to 500-600Mb memory after a few seconds. Not great.
Scroll back 4 or 5 pages and Teams has no recollection of what's there, but it's using a gig of RAM. It's just plain text! I miss Skype for Business!
Slack is using less than half the amount of RAM. I would move to them if I could. Please fix.
1269MB in use by Teams this morning when I look. Your answer is hardly acceptable considering this is an issue everyone is experiencing! I doubt I am the only who can say this is hugely impacting the performance of my MS Surface to the point where it also has a negative impact on MY performance.
Great strategy there Microsoft. Close the item with a huge amount of votes demanding you do something about the diabolical resource hogging of this app, and split them into 4 new items, so they can all go back to the bottom of the pile.
Have you instead perhaps considered actually fixing the problems....? This has been ongoing for 4 years now - you should be utterly ashamed of yourselves.
Will probably involve a re-architecture splitting out the product into seperate jvms or whatever MS uses and each one can be called on or tuned suitably.
Ok, we have understood. This is just a platform to keep users busy and give some stress relief. No real issue tackling, instead the mostly voted things get closed with a ridicilous statement.
Let's stay with a great song of Dire Straits for the time being: Money for nothing.
