High Memory/RAM Usage
Microsoft Teams is currently the most RAM consuming application on my computer
Thank you for your continued feedback. We are continuously improving the clients to use less memory and RAM.
The upgrade to Electron 10 has rolled out fully to the public at this point. Telemetry and testing has shown that this is helping to improve memory performance on the client.
We will continue to work on improvements, and will share more updates as they become available.
For more details on how Teams currently uses memory, please visit https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-memory-usage-perf.
Completely freezes my computer when connected to 4K monitor

Come on, Electron 10 is end of life. For the love of all things holy, please just upgrade to the current Electron and then move to React. How can a chat app use hundreds of megs of memory doing NOTHING!

it's interesting how you are "continuously improving the clients to use less memory and RAM" since 2019, and MS Teams still uses over 350MB+ of RAM on a regular basis!! More than any other application on my PC!!!
Using more tan 900MB on my laptop, with just the main window open. Really bad.

@admin- can you share in which version of Teams this upgrade to Electron 10 is available ?
"The upgrade to Electron 10 has rolled out fully to the public at this point."
It has been announced, not released. Also using half the memory of teams today it will still be using 2-4x the amount of memory of competing collaboration tools when idle.
Admin - don't you mean to say that Microsoft Teams 2.0 will use half the memory, dropping Electron for Edge Webview2 according to Rish Tandon, Microsoft CVP Engineering for Microsoft Team?
Windows 11 will include a consumer version of Teams, which looks as if it will be the first iteration of Teams 2.0, a new architecture which replaces Electron with Edge WebView2 as the basis for the Teams client. Microsoft predicts that the change will reduce the memory footprint by half and make it possible to introduce some new features. There’s no dependency between Windows 11 and Teams 2.0, but given the amount of work needed to make architectural transitions, it’s unlikely that we’ll see an enterprise Teams 2.0 client until sometime in 2022.

My workaround to this is to use the web app instead of the desktop app. Everything is more stable in the web version.
It's worse than ever now!
How “hard” is the team working on this? I have seen NO improvement. None.
Teams has been slowing down my surface pro computer significantly the last few days. It's getting worse, please make this an app i can actually run, thanks

Recently I've been having this as well:
Amazed to see how much RAM Teams uses - makes it totally unusable in a VDI environment. Using about 1GB when minimised and doing nothing meaning we would need 0.5 TB of RAM just run it in our environment. Unsure how large companies use it at all...

Does this thing have memory and handle leaks or something? How can a video calling app consume so much RAM?

Great tool, but uses/hogs way too many resources on Windows machines. Really a pain in enterprise environments. Please make this a prio :)
Yeah, this app is a total resource HOG.
Sitting still, and minimized, it uses about 1GB of RAM.
Worst CPU and Memory Performance with Teams, it just eats up all CPU and Memory on PC even when there are no other applications running except Teams, still it complains your call quality is affected because for high CPU load
So it doesn't even recognize that it, itself is the culprit here, this teams assumes that whole PC is only for its own luxury, highly frustrated with this junk app, only using as its chosen by employer
Please fix this, I loved my surfacepro and all the other MS products when it worked. I am losing an hour per day waiting on my PC or rebooting it. It kills my train of thought as well. As a business owner, I can't have my staff dealing with this everyday. I hate to say this, but I just researched how to convert my company to the "other side." The only reason I consider this, is our phones never slow down nor have problems. Yes the initial price is higher, but with the lost productivity I'm experiencing in my staff, it will pay itself back in days.... My goal is not to convert, MS operate as they used to and I go back to my normal, happy life.
More bloat is added with every update, e.g. more background images for the together mode. It was running fine last year, but now it takes 30 seconds just to hang up a call.
My employer has been using MS Teams since December last year. Initially we thought it would be a great tool to use to collaborate and meet with our peers while working remotely. But it seems as if Teams has been getting worse each day. While on Teams video calls, my surface pro crashed several times over the last couple of weeks. This creates a lot of inefficiencies to my job as I have to constantly meet with my staff. We have noticed Teams uses a significant percentage (about 70%) of memory even though all other applications are closed. This issue needs to be resolved in order for Teams to be considered an effective collaborative work tool.
