hide read messages
It is very distracting to see messages I've already read. I'm done with those... I liked the way Skype for Business handled "conversations". Implementing a similar concept in Teams would be good. At a minimum, it would help to scroll the window such that only unread messages appear.
hide read messages option is an excellent idea

This would be a nice feature if it were user select-able -- someone who uses unread message count as an indicator of outstanding conversations and *likes* having the history visible can happily continue as-is but someone who prefers messages to disappear after they've been addressed can select to hide read messages.
Please, rather make a toggle settings option "hide read messages" and also separate between chat and team channel conversation. Chat is linear and there's no point hiding read messages as you can simply distinguish start of the conversation. History is far more useful when reviewing what was said yesterday - just scroll up.
However, in channel conversations, it often happens that a historical message is replied on - in this case I rather suggest to sort threads chronologically based on last response/activity. These are great again because you can look up old stuff you worked on together. There's no point hiding them if old threads naturally fall back in time, and what you see as most recent are the hot topics you don't want to hide.

I agree, I like how Skype worked and you could close a conversation that didn't have a need to be saved. I don't auto save all messages as that is a clutter in Outlook. I only save the important messages that may be needed later in the project. closing the "How are you" messages keeps my screen clutter free.
