Create alias mention groups, or mention DLs like @here (Slack has this)
Can we @mention everyone in the team at once (group) instead of using @ for every single name?
Also, can we use a different first name than the system because people goes by different name?
It will help if we can copy and paste the @ mention for new conversation.
Basically, I'm looking to be able to create an "@" alias for different groups of people within a team.
We have a team with 3 designers, 2 mobile devs, 2 strategists, and 2 web devs. It would be nice to have the ability to set up tags like "@design" or "@strategy" that would notify the people added to that particular tag - rather than having to tag them all individually every time I have a design question.
Thanks for all of your ideas and feedback! We’re excited to announce that Tags in Teams are now available. Tags let you quickly reach a group of people all at once. With tags, you can categorize people based on attributes, such as role, project, skill, training, or location. For example, a “Nurse” or “Manager” or Designer" tag will enable you to reach groups of people in Teams without having to type every single name.
Once a tag is added, just @mention it in a channel. Everyone who has been assigned that tag will receive a notification just as they would if they were @mentioned individually.

Tags are there, thats true. But it works only for public channels in a Team. It would be great to have the same functionality for private channels.
We are providing a DMS support for our organizational units in MS Teams.
Each organizational unit has its own private channel where the support team and the organizational unit users are finding place. Private channels are used to avoid data leak. For the users it's difficult to mentrion all the people from the support team using @.
So it would be greate to have the same functionallity for tags as public channels have.
Mada a new uservoice for this:

the tag functionality is there now :) YAY
Now we are only missing that when you have created the tag you can easily on the member page search for the tag and see all members of a given tag.

Microsoft Teams tags seems to be a start on this, and has appeared for a few of our staff already:
"Tags in Microsoft Teams let users communicate with a subset of people on a team. Tags can be added to one or multiple team members to easily connect with the right subset of people. Team owners and members (if the feature is enabled for them) can add one or more tags to a person. The tags can then be used in @mentions by anyone on the team in a channel post to communicate with only those people who are assigned that tag."

Would be great to have this feature

This feature is really critical and is a major problem in our implementation. We have an MS Teams setup for our whole IT department but only want to alert certain groups for some posts. We still want the post to be visible to others (for full transparency) but they don't need to be bothered when there are downtimes outside of their area.
This would be great to have, seems like it would be a great way to continue broad communication.
We need this feature as well. Do we know if MS is working on it?

Any ETA on when can this feature be please made available?

I'm really missing such a feature. We are using MS-Team for our projects. With the time more and more stakeholders ask for joining the team as followers. So I'm desparately looking for a way to notify specifically the core team.
This should be basic functionality, please expedite.

Totally agree with everyone here. We badly need this feature in MS teams.I hope @microsoft get an opportunity in early 2020 to implement his feature!

This feature is badly needed, please! It will be great if Microsoft can please prioritize its availability ASAP. We are converging to MS Teams from 3 other chat rooms, and all of them currently have this capability.
Any quick help is highly appreciated!
@Microsoft or maybe it would be more appropriate to just @MicrosoftTeams, but no - can't do that. I can't even create a Private Channel in MS Teams to @everyone there b/c Planner is not supported in Private Channels. Lots of misses in the MS365 and Teams funcionality that I've been discovering lately as I work hard to convert our team from email and shared folders, but these easy misses are making that harder than it should be.
I can't believe sub-groups is not supported - especially on a tool that is being adopted across large enterprises as a de facto collaboration and project management tool. I have stakeholders who want to be able to check in on progress from time to time, but they don't want to be notified every time i do an @team. The channel work-around is useful on some projects, but there are plenty of cases where it's not an adequate solution. I want a @core_team for the ~15 people who are fully engaged, and a broader @team for the additional 5-8 leadership executives who only need certain types of updates. My current process means typing 15 names and hoping I haven't forgotten anyone. That's an accident waiting to happen.
Agree totally with Rebecca - it would be a more efficient way of tagging working groups within a Team - the post might need to be FYI for some but important for particular working groups. This is a common problem I have with the usability.
This would be an ideal feature for both professional use and within education use - e.g. we have a Team set up for student support for distance students and it would be wonderful if they could tag the student advisors as a group rather than typing our names individually, e.g. in case the person they tag is away etc.
Professionally, it would be a more efficient way of tagging working groups within a Team - the post might need to be FYI for some but important for particular working groups. Tagging 5+ names is time-consuming and not a great user experience!

This would be great, Teams can be used as a service tool and would be more flexible if we had these. No need to hide it away in some super admin area either! Let team owners create these in the 'members' area or in a new tab under 'manage team'.
We have a T&L context with student support and classes being hosted in Teams - and we have no way to let students tag an entire support group, or their tutors, etc.
Adding alias groups would be great! Outlook has had them for decades to organise 'mailing lists'. This would be pretty much the same concept. If MS wants to get into the working world and education spaces, this is a key feature to have.

Hello, i agree with this. Get attention from students in team which members are teachers and students will be usefull.

This would be useful for both businesses with a large amounts of people, but also smaller businesses. This could setup project specific groups to mention so only the people in the project would get notified. This should also be possible to create such a group on the fly so that users can create project groups on their own.

Hello! @Microsoft: When you can develop such function? Would be highly useful.
