Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
Thank you for your votes and comments on this feature. The team is in the process of finalizing designs for deleting private chat threads. I will update as we have more progress to share.
I think that after two years and more we really wait enough!
Totally agree. This is a feature that needs to be added.

Yes, it would be wonderful to delete private chat threads. Sometimes for me many of the private chat threads are not significant after a few days to anyone that was part of the chat. Thanks for your consideration of making this available.
Absolutely agree on this - I need to be able to decide which chats persist - not Microsoft

Any updates? This is absolutely ridiculous. It is now 30Jun20 and nothing????????

This is needed in order to handle the data deletion process from Data privacy point of view. Hope this gets addressed sooner.
This needs to be addressed ASAP. Microsoft needs to start listening to the users who have been asking for this very basic feature for years
THIS IS RIDICULOUS
If ever there was an item that needed to be fast tracked its this now so many are using teams.
What this item shows you is that MS are no longer thinking about the consumer as this should already have been in the product a long time ago along with a lot of other items.
How hard is it to add an option to delete things.. and why does it need 2 years to discuss it?
I'd love to have access to the development board to see what MS are doing because from the outside its looks like it's lots of rotten additions and not the things people want and need.
Please provide updates.
Please update the status.
We want the option to delete Chat Conversations. Please apply this option.
Collegues want me to start using Team Chat versus Skype however as long as the chatlogs can't be deleted I will not use team chat. Chat is/was developed for use of short sentences iso sending one line emails (at least to my understanding) and this works perfectly in Skype. But I don't want to have chat logs with all the people who I wish a good morning or have a nice weekend and such. So yes another bump to give prio to this item.

@Alex: Please update on the status.
Adding my voice to the chorus, we need to be able to delete whole private chat threads!
20 days... finalizing...

When can we get this feature? This is a basic and important feature. Appreciate if this is enabled
it is a primary option to delete or clear chat history but TEAMS does not support that, is it hard to make for MS developers?

TEAMS, the issue happens when you are testing the setup of chat and other features. You input a wrong email address, it connects you up in Chat and now you can't remove them, even though you added them in error. This has to be fixed cause I noticed that when policies are updating I started a chat with one address org1 and searched for the user in other organization org2. So, I could start a chat from org2 to org1 but now in my Chat in org 1 I get two separate chats, now its confusing which one to response. Great you can HIDE but it pops back of hiding, and now have to deal with two chat of same account. This is rediculous, this should be addressed sooner than later, cause it'll over time load up your systems with futile logs and corruptions. If I have the ability to delete a chat, it'll be less data for you guys to keep tack of, think about it!
