Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
Thank you for your votes and comments on this feature. The team is in the process of finalizing designs for deleting private chat threads. I will update as we have more progress to share.

Really big bug of Microsoft teams as user can not delete entire chat history or even reset Teams Accounts.
This request is such a no-brainer. If you want to give organizations the option not to allow deleting, fine. But to leave it out an even an option is ridiculous, frankly. Once more, you force us to look into alternative products.
Hide is not really an alternative.
We need this feature. Please give us an Update regarding this.
we've moved our business and fleet to an alternative.
after trying hard to use teams, we saw it as very limited and dumbed down.
There should be a feature to delete conversation history or delete a recently sent message
Suphatra, it is not up to Microsoft to decide the legality of privacy and deletion for private companies.Microsoft does not have the right to hold information a customer has requested be deleted so yes, they need to allow a hard delete option, vs just hiding conversations, for legal reasons.

It's very annoying to have to scroll past potentially hundreds of messages that were deleted in an effort to declutter the space.
Is this still true? We really need this functionality....

I'm going to loose my job implementing Teams. Everyone hates it. Its to much. You have tried to put 10 pounds of sh_t in a 5 pound bag. Thanks MS. Guess I'm going to have to go back to Webex.

It has been a year since we received this super unhelpful suggestion from Suphatra. People clearly want a delete option. Like every other messaging application in history has. Can we please get an update on whether Microsoft is taking this seriously or not?
Yea your try this instead is not a solution to this problem. I understand the functionality of persistent chat and chat following you between devices but we really need retention to be able to be brought down to less than 30 days, ideally 1 day or even a week. We were fully ready to cut over to teams and our legal team freaked out over the 30 day retention and they are now exploring Slack since the retention in slack chats can go down to 1 day. Is this really that difficult to implement?

Still not fixed. This idea was shared over 1 year ago.
I can skype from S4B I cannot from Teams. That means I loses functionality no matter how fancy the comparison chart showing me that I have all the S4b futures. Island mode grayed out and forcing me to migrate. I am not moving till it covers all my business needs and that includes communicating to the odd skype consumer,
please hide or archive. annoying to see the itaicized Deleted message, there are so many in learning mode...

Hide does not equal delete. From the admin posts it's clear MS has no desire to fix this. Guess people will stop using it.
