Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
Thank you for your votes and comments on this feature. The team is in the process of finalizing designs for deleting private chat threads. I will update as we have more progress to share.
I would like to be able to delete old, obsolete chats!!

This seems as if Microsoft is trying to force people to use Microsoft Teams. I like teams to a point. If working on a project, then it is great. But day to day messaging, emails, and etc., not so great. Microsoft has a lot of great things to help with communication, but using TEAMS as a place to put them all for me to communicate seems a little messy. I am looking a files, making call, looking at my calendar, having chats, and everything from TEAMS, but TEAMS is so much harder to understand than the other communication tools Microsoft has. It makes sense to put all of those in one, but the integration is so much harder to understand , and the chats don't needed to be kept for years and years and years.
What about "the right to be forgotten". In french "le droit à l'oubli".
Perhaps the better would be to allow "private" chats, with a configuration about "record or not private chats". Like on skype we still use for "coffee time" chats.

Forced to use Teams by employer...blaah... Very stupid as you can't get rid of nuisance conversation. Will never use this chat tool for private.
Nearly 3000 votes and almost 400 comments. This facility should have been built in from the beginning.
Someone had to resign recently due to the last line of a chat being visible in the conversation list. I'm sure it's not the only case.
I personally waste a lot of time hiding chats daily so that confidential information isn't seen by others. I still have a lot of conversations by mail specifically because of the problem with confidential information being visible.
Welcome to 2020 - this is still a thing. Was floored to find we can't delete threads between users from a test teams roll out. We were close to deployment and have discovered enough issues now (this was a big one) that we are going to hold off on teams and pick a simpler solution.
why cant we delete our private chats? this is so wrong if someone knows your login password, like most companies do, then your privacy is gone. please please add a delete feature
Private Chats löschen.
Please allow this as we have employees who have left the company and we are stuck with their chats.

This must be a user option to delete what they initiate or write... period.
Please put in next release, cannot be that difficult to do.
This request is under review for 2 years now. When can we have this up and working?
Please provide the facility to delete.
Otherwise this makes Teams appear like spyware :(
Data protection law REQUIRES that, upon request, user's data should be deleted.
It is most essential to be able to remove old chat threads and clean your history as Chat programs are used as daily tools to speed up communications, if not the program is pointless.

We just moved to Teams and have tons of people asking for this. Please implement ASAP.

We have left office 365 and moved to Microsoft Exchange Server, with Office Pro licences. Teams have been removed from all machines.
I will reinstigate teams if the chat side of things is sorted out so private chats can be removed.
A simplified version of on premise teams or a new Skype for Business is required. Microsoft need to listen to what business users and company owners want
As someone else already stated
The option to delete a whole thread is crucial; hiding the chat is not an acceptable solution because if you start a new chat with the same person the whole history comes up. Skype doesn't do this so teams shouldn't either

So many people have requested this many threads, as well as in this suggestion thread. I don't know why this isn't something that has been fixed yet.

For now, I think there is no such option to delete entire chat log. We can only select a particular message and delete it (click on 3 dots to see more option-> delete). Even I feel it is better to have an option to delete entire chat log

Please work on this, every other chatting app/platform has this. It's like building a house and not building a door. Who does that?
