Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
I’m happy to share that the team has started exploring designs for this feature.
I can't believe such a significant must-have feature like deleting an old/unneeded conversation is not available from day one of this product!
My MS Teams chat panel is full of old conversations that are obsolete. How am I supposed to navigate through all those old conversations and stay productive on current ones? Now picture that scenario in an enterprise environment with lots of conversations...
Mute/Archive/Hide is not a viable option.
What were you thinking, MS Teams team? Please fix this asap and provide us the option to erase a conversation.
How can we delete the Chat Conversion in Microsoft Team Portal please suggest ASAP

Yes, add a feature to delete an entire chat thread. This should've a feature from the beginning.

Why are there so many features that Microsoft is backlogged on? Teams will be replacing Skype within a year and there are so many problems and outstanding issues with Teams... either it is going to be one heck of a busy year or the ball is going to be dropped by MS in a major way. I would be extremely worried if I was a MS Teams executive.
Add the ability to delete the all chat, I hate seeing the other person's chat left on my screen
I prefer Skype
just started using Teams and boy, is it clunky. There are loads of ways to make it easy and has anyone actuly tried to read the bit about @channels!!! no, nor me. Deleting dross and complete chats is esential if you have more than 4 people, basics and data protection compliant is the order of the day please. chop-chop
The delete function that is currently available is terrible one need to click each message that one has sent and click the 3 dots and select delete. This is not allowed for message sent by someone else, just your own.
Problems that arise. I now have a message log for a chat that is all one sided from the other sender.
I assume it was only deleted for me but don't know if this acts like a recall and delete or just a delete for me.
I need to do this for each message it could be a very long and tedious process.
Please stop trying to reinvent the wheel and look at the thousands of popular messaging applications and just copy their interfaces. Stop acting like Facebook and trying to make a spamming forever wall.
Please just add "delete" option to delete the entire chat string - like Skype had
Hi, please enable this option to delete private channels by owner / permitted members.
Please allow users to delete messages.
so every person that has ever opened a chat is showing all the time, I often click my chat option to contacts . as that is my direct team. also if I need to find a person chat that I actually do want, I have to use the search bar, because there are 3 pages of people in my :chat recent" area.
At what point does this affect performance, saving all the video, the gifs and stupid stuff people send to you. chat part should be a delete , save or archive setting for each one. Channels should have the more deluxe features of attaching a paper, keeping a project history. I view chat as small snippets, rarely anything I need to save, but the channel should be used for project management. I don't se the need to attach a file, we have email for that? you trying to replace emails? as I would not want to scroll back 2 years of chats to find an important item, silly.
I absolutely hate using Teams with the clutter and the clumsy interface. Without basic features like delete a chat, this really is such an inferior product. Please catch up with some of the more basic messaging applications, like SFB and Slack Chat.
I was surprise this is not available as I believe it is basic housekeeping to delete so as to remove a conversation permanently.

I cannot believe for personal privacy that we cannot delete a conversation.
What's the holdup? Make options to "Close" or "Close/archive" or "Delete". Once a conversation has ended, you should have those options. No more backlog for this, please. I'd hate to think about how much access time will decrease as the list gets bigger - hidden or not.

I agree that the ability to delete a chat is necessary -- both individually and to select multiple to delete at a time.
In addition, there should be an option to either automatically delete and/or archive a chat after a period of time (for example - upon closing the app or after x days)
Allow us to delete private chats! Is a privacy right!
Would the recipient have already seen the message? Does it delete just for the person sending or for the recipient as well?
why don't add the delete function at the beginning...This is a toooo basic thing OK?
