Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
Thank you for your feedback! The team has finalized the designs for this feature request, and work is planned to begin shortly. We will share an update as soon as one is available.
Need the ability to delete chat history
Personally just need a way to hide conversations so I don't accidentally reveal a privelleged conversation while on a conference call.

Would love the ability to completely delete a chat thread, the same way one would delete an e-mail thread if it's not needed for long-term business use. I did a test chat with a coworker to make sure that Teams was working. I still have it nine months later!
Unable to delete "conversation" chat. Keep it simple by select the conversation and hit delete key.
Nowhere can be found the way to delete

After ten plus years, I have deleted my phone number effective when the subscription ends. Given the number of spam calls that I receive, the inability to quickly block such calls, the inability to delete history of calls, and inability to create custom voicemail greeting, the question begs, what am I paying for? I won't starting mid-December. When Skype was sold to MS, many predicted its demise. The prediction will come true it looks like. What's next? MS to destroy Minecraft?
Our powers-that-be rolled out Teams despite not having the 'OBVIOUS' feature of deleting chat history/threads.
What did the staff do in response?
We all signed up for 'FREE' WhatsApp and keep it open on our browsers using 'WhatsApp Web' and effectively communicated to management that is was unacceptable to deploy a communication tool that essentially keeps every communication without the option to delete chat history.
It's hilarious to see only management using 'chat' in Teams and staff use WhatsApp Web. It's like the inmates running the asylum.
Whomever is managing the feature set of Microsoft Teams and is 'actually' reading these posts; please get with the 'F***ing' program!!! That is to say, keep dragging your proverbial feet and watch the mass 'Exodus' happen when Skype finally kicks! Tick tock tick tock! Time to wake up Microsoft!!!

I will not roll out Teams to my network until the ability to delete chat(s) is implemented. If that means in 3 years when they EOL Skype for business and force Teams we will find an alternative solution.
It is nothing but more garbage to sort through.
This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen, why would you just have a stream of conversation go on and on and on and not be able to delete it or have the conversation delete upon closing like Skype did! And then if you want to delete you can only delete your replies and even when you do that it leaves a bubble saying "this message has been deleted" and the point of that, still leaves clutter and the point of being able to delete yours but leave the other persons? Who the heck would want all this clutter in their conversation box, after time it will be so long you wouldn't even be able to find some part of a conversation if you wanted to!
any answers on how not to see the deleted messages ?
Able to delete conversations without deleting the Teams app. Needed tool!!!

Not allowing users to delete private chat threads in teams is a PRIVACY AND SECURITY ISSUE. This is unacceptable. Now that Teams is replacing Skype for Business, we will be exploring alternatives that better protect our privacy. Users should have the ability to delete private chat threads as they see fit - not as Microsoft allows. This is basic functionality that has been requested time and time again, and its omission is ridiculous.
The lack of this feature, specifically, is forcing us to abandon Microsoft Teams as a team and/or chat tool.
The possibility of deleting messages can have two perspectives:
- delete in the own chat window and in the other partner's chat window (about this one I do not comment)
- delete only in our chat window
About what is present in my window, I must have full control.
The ability of to delete an incoming or outgoing message in my chat is a basic feature that I must have.
Without this option I will not use this application.

How is this still "Under Review"? It seems silly that you can't even do a basic function that was designed back in 1995 (mIRC)... at least skype conversations saved in Outlook for previous reference and now it is literally a long text message (except a lot longer since you IM each throughout the day). Talk about a huge fallacy on MicroSoft's part.
We are stuck using IBM Sametime because our Executive Director will not let us implement Teams because we cannot turnoff the "save chat" feature. Please put this on the roadmap.

Many companies have policies against saving PRIVATE chats!
Please make this happen!
is there the ability to do this , delete chats?
Please enable the delete old chats from the Microsoft Team. otherwise it is too cluttered, not being able to delete older or "no longer necessary" chats is too frustrating.
I cant believe this wasn't considered important enough to be fixed at first place.
This is a basic requirement
Eduardo Lunkes commented
I also agree, that it is too cluttered, not being able to delete older or "no longer necessary" chats. We used Skype all the time and not being able to delete is creating a long string of unnecessary chat history. Please implement the delete function! Thank you!
