We want to have the ability to rename or delete the General channel that is automatically set up.

Yes I don't want users putting things in a "general" non specific location, I want them to use the specific channel for the specific subject.

I second Sara’s comment about the General channel. I do not want everyone to know who was added and deleted to a team. That should be private to the team owners.

@Microsoft: Please consider this request. Without this, Teams is not useful for our organization. We need to remove General channel or make it private / hide so no one can access.

I second (well, 22nd I reckon) this request. There needs to be an option to hide and/or clean up the general channel. Lack of this feature is preventing us from rolling out Teams to companies, simply because - as is - it's confusing and distracting for the end user.

I copied from Sara Cubasic, as she has perfectly summarized our problem at corporate comms: We have a company-wide corporate managed Team set up for ongoing communication, which is particularly helpful right now. But we utilize a moderated channel to control who can @mention the team, create new content, etc. We were not able to moderate in the General channel, so we do not use this embedded community at all. It unfortunately still shows up first, before the actual channel that we use daily. To make matters worse, right now the General channel is an ongoing list of membership updates - i.e. those who join or leave the company. I really wish that we could keep this activity private or at least not on display in front of everyone's faces.

General Channels are a huge distraction for our users. Please give us the option to hide or delete these. I'm spending way too much time discussing, trying to answer question about something that doesn't have any function for our users but they are constantly seeing.
Thanks

Any update on this ongoing concern Microsoft?

How is this feature not included is just beyond me. The history messages in the General channel show every single action the Owner does: adding new members(showing their emails) adding new PRIVATE channels, deleting channels.. Just whatever.. This is a joke! Microsoft developers, please get serious, this product has serious potential but these seemingly small stuff need to be addressed FIRST!

Need the ability to delete the General channel as well. With corporate standards for Team channel composition, the General tab creates clutter and confuses team members (especially new users). I noted that this has been a user request for years and is one of a few customization hinderances to the adoption of Microsoft Teams. Why after 3 years is this and channel customization (Files, Posts) so hard to address?

Please add this ability

Agreed. This channel is fine but we should be able to customise the name, as "Team Admin" makes an easier one-to-one direct migration for my team than "General." Please enable customisation of all channel names, even this default one.

ability to delete the advertisements for Karma and Jelbot, as well as delete the general tab. Stop forcing us to take channels and apps we do not want.
In addition, want to be able to delete Files and conversations from some channels -

It quickly becomes irrelevant when adding more channels.

Most definitely!! Allow us to change "General" to what works for us!

pretty much the FIRST thing I wanted to do when I sat down with teams and wanted to setup for my org. boggles my mind how Microsoft developers cannot account for the very first thing that pops into a user's head when starting with a new piece of software.
