Repeating this so people stop asking for it to be a "feature".. Larry commented:

Solution -- increased the width of the Teams window by 1/4 inch and the chat panel reappeared!

Please restore this feature asap!! There's a good reason this feature is permanently available in other messaging apps.

Having tons of chat's stored, finding the contacts daily is too difficult, please add function to PIN my whole contact list.
PINning chat's to top is not the same.

Two weeks ago my contact list was pinned to the left side of Teams.I had just learned that I could pin my frequent contacts to the list. Now, it's no longer there and I see no way to bring it back! It only appears when I mouseover chat What happened and how do I get it back?

They really need to add this back, it's so counterintuitive.

This issue is still not fixed?!! Can you please have it pinned open?? It's incredibly annoying and inconvenient. Microsoft must not be using Microsoft Teams within their company..

The new update took away my ability to keep my chat list open while I chat. What an unnecessary update, makes it less useful. Updates should be helpful not useless

All previous versions of Microsoft Chat applications (IM/Skype etc) included the ability to keep contacts open in the background of desktop for quick access to contact status & chat. These also included the option to minimize multiple chats in separate window tabs.
Microsoft teams is great for calls, meetings, group chats etc but basic instant messaging functions have been forgotten with this crowded upgrade. These functions are ESSENTIAL & UTILIZED BY EVERYONE IN ANY CORPORATE *OFFICE* SETTING. -

Please allow pin functionality for Contact. It's really very important.

Please? Where is this function? It's utterly annoying that I can see either chats or contacts. Having a curated contact list in a separate window is really important as it gives you a quick and easy indication of the status of your most relevant contacts. Actively hiding the contact list in a dual use section of the UI (chat *or* contacts) is about as bad as one can make it.
It's really sad. Sometimes I wonder if the people making the UI decisions have even the slightest clue about how people work.

It would be nice to separate like Skype contact list. I use this more than the other items Teams provides.

All the comments here are valid and MS needs to recognise this. WFH with a large team, we need contacts pinned, we don't want to have video on as default, we want previous chats to not be visible etc.

Same issue. We use teams every day at work, and would definitely benefit from this feature.
For those looking for a work around, however. Maximizing the app to the screen will pin the contact list. Also, when using a smaller screen (Restore Down), there is a "minimum window size" that will allow the contact list to pin. It'll take a little finagling, but you'll see the contact list pin into place as soon as you reach the minimum window size.

TO MS: I strongly agree with everyone here, a pinned-open contact list needs to be a SETTING so people can choose to have it or not.
TO EVERYONE ELSE: as of today, if I make the Teams window reeeeeeally big, then I get the contact list pinned side-by-side with my chat content.
I would prefer to shrink the Teams window down so I can use my screen for my actual work and still see Teams contacts off to the side. Please fix asap.
