Spell check in multiple languages
It would be nice if it was possible to have the Teams desktop app in one languge and spell checking in multiple languge and at the same time customize date and time format.
E.g. I would like to have Teams in English, have spell checking in English and Danish, and have date and time format in "Danish".

Thank you for your feedback! We are happy to share that users who write different messages in different languages, will now see spellchecking relevant to the language they are actively using when typing a message while using the Microsoft Teams Desktop App on Windows.

This should be configurable per-channel. It's possible to have a chat in English with one team, and a chat in Norwegian with another.

Have the same problem.
There should be a setting for teams and a setting for contacts and of course a global setting as a fallback.
In my case I have english teams and german teams. And for some chat partners I write in a dialect (swiss(!)-german also called Mundart). Mundart actually does not have any correct spelling or grammar. So in that context it should be disabled at all for that contact.

In the other Microsoft programs this is standard so why not in teams ?

Can you insert the feature that teams recognize himself the written language for the correction ?

Should use selected system dictionary by default, with option to override for specific conversations. (You may be chatting to someone in Spanish in one tab, in English in another.)

It could be done like in the S4B (Lync), via Windows keyboards manager: switching languages with `Win + Space`.

Teams spell check should be able to use UK dictionaries

Exactly that! It is mind boggling that developers in this day and age still think that users only communicate in one language.

It isn't easy to figure out what dictionary it is using, and will probably require digging around in the settings. Adding a selection in the right-click pop-up on a misspelled word, which goes straight to the language selection, would save a lot of grief.

It appears to me that the suggestions for spelling mistakes are different then what the suggestions would be in Word or other Microsoft products. I have also noticed that some word will have the whole word underlined and when I right click it, to check the spelling suggestions, it only suggests for part of the word.

Optionally change the language of the proofing tools without changing the language of the desktop application, e.g.: have the spelling check in Dutch, but let the application language stay in English.

Enable setting the language for spellcheck separately from display language. I write in Teams using a different language than my display language, and I bet I'm not the only one. Please add an option to set the language of the spellchecking!

As a User I want to be able to switch off spell-checking. -
It is very annoying that spell-checking cannot be switched off, plus, that the language the system thinks I'm typing in is the language to which the app is set. This is not the reality of most users. We want to set the app language to, let's say English and then type in whatever other language without getting the input redlined. Personally, I'm switching languages all the time depending on who I talk to. I want to be able to do this without my input being redlined. If adding language detection is too difficult, make spell checking optional. It will cost you 1 sprint point. One. Thank you. -

English (South Africa) should use the British English diictionary but is using American English to highlight spelling errors. Needed to change language to English (United Kingdom) to correct this.

@Summer - I am having the same frustration in that it tells me I've spelled it wrong, but now I have to go to another app to figure out how to spell it right! FRUSTRATING!

It seems that at the moment the spell check is locked to the language of the interface. Can you please make it consistent with how it works in other office applications (for example related to the keyboard layout)?

Need to add English (UK) as well. Thanks!

I would suggest it could be possible to include several additional languages options rather than just taking the default language. Thanks.

For now even adding words to custom dictionary would do (per language)
