When an assignment is set the students receive an email
When a teacher sets an assignment in Teams it would be very helpful if the students receive an email informing that an assignment has been set.
Hi, as a teacher, now moving solely into online teaching and learning due to Covid-19, I'm experimenting with Teams and really like it. However, the automatic notification of a post by me done via an email to the students would be of a great help. Likewise an email when I add an assignment would be wonderful too. Yes the "bell" signals students have a notification waiting to be read, but it's not as effective as getting an email.
As such, I fully the post above.

Absolutely. The email should have a link back to teams, and a link to download options for android, iOS, Mac and PC.
It is a real missing link.
Of course, you would not want to overwhelm - so the default would be to email a summary at a time set by the school ICT dept. (4:15pm default?)
Students could edit their preferences in teams (including ‘no emailed notifications’ and ‘email immediately for every update’)
This is an essential feature for user onboarding.
We have many staff using Teams brilliantly, but unless we ensure all students have the Teams app installed, they never know if an assignment has been set unless the teacher tells them.
The lack of email notifications for assignments is seriously limiting student and teacher engagement.
