Setting to always open documents in native application
I never want to open the document in Teams, or in Office Online. I always want to use the native desktop program. Would be nice if there was a global setting so documents always opened in desktop applications.

This is a current setting in SharePoint for applications to always be open in the native app. Can we please add that to TEAMS?
The viewer in teams lacks functionality that is used in most of our Excel sheets and the viewer is slow with large sheets and even unworkable with huge sheets. So open in desktop app by default instead of clikcing the ... every time would benefit efficiency!
This will allow user to work with with/contribute to document relevent to active chats/discussions in teams without having to constantly switch between tabs in teams.
it would improve usability and therefore workspeed dramatically
It's vital to allow multiple editors of a document to see tracked changes
Yes, please add this function. Opening e.g. complex Excel Files in Online Mode is annoying.

Yes, please add this feature. I want to punch my machine every time I use Teams to open a document because of this! We use macros to perform certain actions on open/save and they don't work through the web interface.
please add this function

This is by far the biggest flaw in Teams in the company I work for. This has corrupted many documents and caused a lot of frustration.
We want to work in Teams, but you are making that difficult.
Fully support this. Especiall with internal links and formatting the online version 'destroy' the document
This is a function that I truly miss. Please prioritize!
So far the web based applications are by far not good enough to replace the desktop versions.

Till the webapps' functionality and behavior are not exactly similar to the client apps, this function is a must for more ux.
So we would appreciate to see this function in one of the next updates.

Even though Microsofts agenda is quite clear in what regards the driving of user towards a fully web based applications, making desktops apps obsolete, it is not acceptable all the pain of the last few years, where even though you failed to produce a equivalent web app you still push everyone to it.
You are not there yet. Until you are the defaults need to be the proven solutions that WORK.
I have the image in my head of a car, where you decided to install new types of tires. The solution you have points to a more efficient solution in the future, so you install prototypes that force everyone to drive slower and put the normal tires in trunk.

This NEEDS to be an add. The formatting in certain Word documents is completely different in the Teams web viewer than the full desktop version of Word. I support a fortune 500 company that has a volume O365 license. We would never come in contact with someone who was using the 'free' version of Teams, therefore we would want all Office files to default to the full desktop versions when launched out of Teams.
For now I have to tell all my users to right click > open in desktop version...not ideal.

I have no words. Opening in default app is a must add.
I REALLY hope a fixed is announced at Ignite this year! The inability to open Office doc's in the native desktop app makes deploying Teams company-wide impractical! Absolutely essential.

this is an essential option!
Would love to see this. Most of my coworkers just open the document in the native app anyways. If somebody’s sends me a doc I usually want to chat about it, but can’t if the docs open inline...
Office documents can be opened in the native application by clicking on the three dots and choosing "Open in [Desktop App / Browser]". That's huge in my opinion, but still not big enough. I do a lot of work in PDFs and would like the capability to open them in Nuance PDF. Since Windows already has the default application setting, why can't Teams do it?
I know, I know, Teams isn't really a Windows application... It's an extension of SharePoint. But let's move beyond that and make it really work!
So, I learned today that you can go into the SPO site that is created by the team and set it to open in the native application. It does set it for all users in the site when you change the default in the Settings Cog>>Advanced settings>>Opening Docs in the Browser field. HOWEVER, when you render the content from the TEAMs app it continues to open it in the online version of the app, then we have to go through the extra clicks to get it to open in the native app. Please make this change seamless for users - it would help so much with productivity and minimizing the clicking they have to go through just to get to the capability they need. It is also difficult to manage expectations around why it works differently which interferes with adoption and usage.

I don't see any setting that would do this, @Joost please explain how you were able to do it.
