do not send messages when <enter> is pressed. change to another shortcut key.
I have to edit my messages several times because every time I press enter for a Carriage Return, it sends instead. I know the shortcut key for Carriage Return is SHIFT+ENTER but its not very intuitive and makes for miscommunication. Thank you for your consideration.
Just to make things a LOT worse, you HAVE to use "enter" if you are in a list (or trying to exit a list) or in a code block (or trying to exit a code block), but if you press "enter" again after exiting the element, it submit. This inconsistency makes Teams very painful to use.

The settings possibility like in Skype is needed to decide, if I want to use <Enter> for a new line or for sending in general.
ENTER should be just Enter/New Line
If I wanted to SEND I would click on SEND - Set up something ELSE as the keyboard command for this!

I support this as well.
+1. Please consider this, it's very annoying...
+1 for me. Can't believe such a basic capability isn't available after all this time...Yammer, Slack etc all have this. It's just _normal_ to expect this to be there.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MICROSOFT, LISTEN TO YOUR USERS!! I CAN TELL SLACK AND SKYPE TO REQUIRE ALT-ENTER OR SHIFT-ENTER TO SEND BUT NOT YOUR SOFTWARE. YET ALT-ENTER *ALSO* SENDS THE MESSAGE IN TEAMS. WHY? WHY WOULD YOU HAVE *TWO* WAYS OF SENDING, AND *ZERO* WAYS OF ENTERING A BLANK LINE WITHOUT OPENING A MULTI-LINE-EDITOR?!! WHY ARE YOU SO DETERMINED TO FORCE PEOPLE TO ACCIDENTALLY SEND UNFINISHED MESSAGES? HOW IS THAT GOOD FOR *ANYONE*? AFTER 32 YEARS OF WRITING SOFTWARE FOR A LIVING I CAN HONESTLY SAY I'D BE FIRED IF I WROTE SOMETHING THIS INFLEXIBLE OR IGNORED WHAT MY USERS BEGGED ME LITERALLY FOR YEARS TO DO. I THINK YOU'RE OVERLOOKING THE FACT THAT OTHER SOFTWARE EXISTS AND THAT BECAUSE TEAMS IS SO HORRIBLE (I'M SORRY BUT IT TRULY TRULY IS), EVERYONE FORCED TO USE IT INSTALLS SOFTWARE THEY *DON'T* HATE AND ARE NOW IN THE HABIT OF EXPECTING 'ALT-ENTER' TO GIVE A NEW LINE SO DO IT WITHOUT THINKING. EVEN STOPPING 'ALT-ENTER' FROM SENDING WOULD BE A HUGE IMPROVEMENT!!!!! I'M ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS, NOT JUST BECAUSE I'VE DONE IT FOR THE THOUSANDTH TIME JUST NOW AND AM GOOGLING FOR THE HUNDRETH SEEKING A SOLUTION OTHER THAN 'CLICK THIS STUPID ICON FIRST', I'M FURIOUS BECAUSE I'M REPLYING TO A COMMENT ASKING THE SAME QUESTION AND I JUST NOTICED THAT IT'S ABOUT TO HAVE IT'S THIRD BIRTHDAY. THAT'S HOW LITTLE YOU CARE ABOUT US. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES FOR TURNING ME INTO ONE OF THOSE CAPS-LOCK-ON GUYS I HATE BUT WHO I'M STARTING TO UNDERSTAND. WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY? THERE ARE NO NEW-LINES IN THIS MESSAGE? YES BECAUSE YOU'VE LITERALLY MADE ME TERRIFIED OF THE ENTER KEY?$^?$%!
It looks this request doesn't have enough votes to get Microsoft's attention. Could anyone from Microsoft comment on this, please? It should be quite cheap feature to make and it has been reported 3 years ago.
Slack has the ability to disable this as an option. This is annoying me to the point of considering slack in place of teams.
The oldest comment was posted in 2017 and this feature is still not added in 2020. What are you doing all these years? This is how MS becomes a dinosaur.
I want to allow users to change the sending method.
or want to send it by clicking the send button like Slack and Twitter.
Please make "return" an option in Teams, rather than sending the message. It's critical. Thank you.
Microsoft, its 2020, come on please get your act together. You give Teams to University's and as a young teacher I prefer not to respect indication from the leading corp and to use other programs because MS Teams is just a huge mess.
I can only agree with everyone else:
Enter is carrige return, shift+enter line break, ctrl+enter send.
How *meeep* difficult could it possibly be?!
Please let users have this feature!
I really recommend this from a UX perspective, will make your users less frustrated, no matter how few votes this has, the ask is REALLY IMPORTANT.
I can't believe this is still not sorted. Microsoft, please get your act together and do this already. Such a simple piece of code and such a bad user experience working without it.
Agree, please let users decide
After adding numbered list, [Enter] button adding new numbered line... even if it is not "Formatted text".
In other case (if cursor position outside numbered list) [Enter] sending message...
Please stop blowing my brain.
Why software developers want everyone to adhere to their way of thinking or operation?
ENTER, SHIFT+ENTER, CONTROL+ENTER or any other key combinations should be related ONLY to text writing activities when software is delivered.
Send the message by Selecting and Clicking on little icon!
Or, give the user the option to customize.
Simple enough and NO Surprises.
