File path to links
When users copy/paste a link to a local folder on a server in Team, that link currently comes through as text. This causes other users to have to copy/paste the link into a new file explorer address bar. What I would like Teams to do is convert this path into a hyperlink automatically, so they only need to click on the link to open the local folder.
For example, if I have a server share mapped to S:\, with the folder "FolderName" inside of it, and I would like to share the contents of this folder with another employee. I would copy the path "S:\FolderName", and send it to that employee. In the current setup, they would copy "S:\FolderName", open a file explorer, click into the address bar, delete what is in there, then paste and hit enter. If this were changed to a hyperlink, all of those steps would go away. They would simply need to click the link, file explorer would open to that path and we'd be done.
This is a repeated feature request I am getting from my coworkers. Thanks!

you can copy the path but it won't link (they can paste the path in the explorer bar); you can also upload the file to the chat. I can't figure out the best practice...

This is an absolute must. I know you want to get everyone to move their files to Sharepoint, and I sincerely hope this isn't a way to coerce people to this model, but it's not going to happen for a lot of companies.

There are many US Govt users whose agencies are already paying for the use of cloud services but still very much need the ability to hyperlink to local secure servers. Let's get this done.

Alright. I understand that UserVoice is not a place where users should vent out their frustrations, but if companies using UV ignore what their users are asking for (repeatedly, and in countless suggestions), then what is the meaning behind the whole exercise?
Allow users to insert a link to a local/shared drive file. In 2021. Am I really asking for this? And MS blaming Chromium Embedded Framework as their reason for declining? Really? (https://bit.ly/3aUKuRP)
How am I expected to remain level headed when the BS is flying so high and thick? Unbelievable!

We'd need the same for shell protocol handlers like mailto: and others (especially custom registered ones, PLEASE) - please consider that MS Teams might run in heterogene environments! Optionally switching off the URI-parsing and just simply print the original link would do the job.

It's not a bug, it's future! You shouldn’t use local files any more. MS likes to make you use the Cloud for your files. Business is for MS more important, than usability. Not a new finding.

Teams is of course cloud based / focussed, but I don's seem the harm in adding this feature (and also mailto:). Just add it please

Our company has a well defined network storage that is accessible from every computer. Referring to it will be required even if after we moved new stuff in the cloud (if that every happens). I like to send a link like file://///nas1a/info/project/458741/Specification.jd3
That these links will not work outside the LAN is by intention!
This is very similar to https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/18630043-allow-hyperlinking-to-network-drive-locations

I (most of us in our company) also miss that feature a lot!
