Move and copy files without desktop staging
Basically I think Onedrive actions should always be able to direct operations to Sharepoint as target and vice versa. The desktop might be the default but the option to save to could is required.
Moving and copying files needs the option to save to user OneDrive (for staging a copy or move) or direct to a Sharepoint location potentially outside of the current team. With only a desktop save option presented as currently, it's inevitable that the user becomes confused about why it's so hard to do something so simple. Files become untracked saved to desktop (e.g. no delta versions available except perhaps a (1) or (2) when the name overloads on an existing file). It's very error prone.
The current workaround is that, during staging, I tell the user to rename the original file with a reference to not touch the file and reference who is responsible for the file moving and to where. They then do the temp save to desktop dance and reupload.
I normally set a flow on the file to let know if there is activity on the old file so I can follow it up and direct the user to the new location. When archiving a lot of data, this could translate to a requirement for a better file move experience.
Amazing! Checking this today and the implementation is perfect. e.g. I'm in Teams and select to Move a file that's in Teams already, I'm presented with a traversable representation of the file backing store for channels across all teams and can select the target. So cool! Thank you
