Chat notifications are hard to see
Using the dark theme, I have to hunt around a bit to find chats with new messages. Since the only notification that a chat with a specific person has new messages is that the text is bolded, it's easy to miss. Would be nice if new chats bubbled up to an "active chats" group or something like that. Or maybe a red notification as to how many chats I haven't read, similar to the one on the "Chat" tab, but specific to a chat.

It would be nice if they added a feature to show new chat messages with a bubble notification. When a new message is received it can have a red bubble next to the individual/group chat and indicate number of unread messages.
I didn't even know the text was slightly bolder for new chats, I have been looking hard and for a tiny dot next to chats that have new messages. I say get rid of the status circle on the chat icons and use that as a visual for new messages like APPLE APPS and their red notification number. COPY WHAT ALREADY WORKS!!!!!

I agree with the statement that perhaps a different color using the Dark theme would be good and/or changing the background of the notification window for that particular chat.

Same issue here with the dark theme. Also unlike Skype there is no easy way to view others active status. I had to create a draft chat to everyone, then make them favorite so I can always see different team members I interact with frequently. However, once in favorite their location never moves. I would like when someone sends me a chat they they are at the top of the list - I should not have to scroll to the bottom to look for who sent a message. Also, I dont know why Teams does not interact with the new W10 notification area. Skype does, Teams should as well since that is where MS wants us to look. If I am not at my computer and I miss the initial notification there is nothing showing me I missed a chat unless I go and look at Teams. There needs to be something in the task bar, or something telling me I missed a message!

All good comments here - I've had the same thought leading me here to this thread.
I also prefer and use the DARK theme. I like the recents moving up to the top but I find the view of white BOLD almost too blending with the non-bolded / or read threads.
Making the FONT a custom color (primary ask from my end) or making the background of the individual chat box rectangle would draw more attention to the recent pings. doing the chatbox background, you would want a contrasting line color around the box to separate multiple received chats you have not yet read
the app on the taskbar with a red bubble + counter of outstanding chats is also a nice indicator - thanks guys

I'd like a different background color for new chats. Obvious for me please.

I think both the list of chats, adn when in the teams tab the list of channels would benefit from using the same visual and simple approach:
1. Just list the channel or chat name (persons name for most chats).
2. Turn bold and have the red number bubble next to the name if there are unread messages
Clean and simple and good for all themes.

Agreed. The dark theme is much easier on the eyes, but with 10+ chat tabs open throughout the day... I have to hunt for the subtly bolded text. Even adding a dot, an icon, or a color change would go a long way.
It might be nice if you changed the color or text of the conversation that has unread messages.
