Matching Channels Should Show Up in Team Search
Channel names that match a search in "Team Search" should show up in the search along with the team they are a part of.
Depending on how we use the two entities they could be relatively interchangable - a user searching should not have to know ahead of time that the "abc" channel they are looking for is a part of "xyz team"
Yes! This is one of my biggest frustrations - I am a members of 30+ teams, each with multiple channels. It is crazy to think that I will remember the name of the channel, and if I search the name of the team, I now can't navigate directly to that team to see the channels. Search of Team should either 1) give you an ability to click straight to that team and then see the channels below, or 2) should just show you all of the channels under the team that was searched for.
I think this is really needed but potentially also with functionality to add tags or keywords to teams. At the moment it is designed in such a way that most users would think there are only 5 or 10 public teams because there seems to be a random selection on the join page. If nothing else please add a card for search to make it more obvious and perhaps an indication that there are x public teams available.
For me it should be a lot clearer... there are x public teams; here are some you might consider joining...alternatively search here.
Our large Enterprise company recently began transitioning from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams, and we already have over 2,000 active Teams users, ~100 Teams (Public and Private) and a few hundred Channels. Ultimately, over 18K "knowledge workers" will switch to Teams, and we are already running into a headache: How do we avoid duplicate Channels which share the same purpose?
One way to help solve this problem would be to list Channel names with their description in the MS Teams search results, but currently only Channel CONTENT appears in search results.
I am surprised this doesn't have more votes, but as companies begin to experience the headaches of having to manage 1,000's of Channels, people will begin asking for this feature.
Ditto on this - we include bug numbers in our channel names - to search by bug numbers to find a channel would be very beneficial.
Teams would be a great tool for us. We could have a team for each of our clients but since there is no way to search channel names this will not work.
That is a shame because Teams checks the box for everything else we need.
ditto to Royce
We have just started using MS Teams and find it very challenging that you cannot search for channel names. I am surprised there are not more votes for this functionality. Is there another discussion on this function?
I should have qualified this with "For public teams" as that is the scenario I tested that does not work. For discoverability and onboarding to MS teams purposes this is similar to: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/19081024-links-to-channels-in-public-teams-don-t-work
