Alphabetical sort option for Teams
Please consider including an option for viewing the teams in alphabetical order. Ideally, there should be a "Default" view which sorts all the teams in ascending order (A-Z) and an option to sort the teams based on most recent activity. Of course, this feature should also be pushed to the mobile app as well.

This feature will save time for millions of teachers.
Any update on this?
One of the biggest annoyances in using Teams: being unable to sort, filter, search and order channels. For some reason, sometimes channels switch position. We have renamed all channels to start with numbers, so we can put them back into place more easily. Drag and drop is cumbersome. Re-ordering is taking many clicks and a lot of time.
Some people in my company have more than 400 teams... It would be great for them to have this option, as they are time to use some kind of naming convention for Teams.
I need to be able to sort in order to use Teams effectively.
At a time everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, it is not possible to represent a user list in an alphabetical order - welcome in the new age :-(
That would be a very helpful feature indeed - and something I'd actually consider a basic funtionality! I waste a lot of time searching for the right team - time that could be spent much more productively.
This idea has been posted a long time ago and this function is still not availbable. Could you please just add this or give me a way to pin teams so i can use the ones that i am working on?
That would be very helpful for our company too.
Also, that my name is not always at the top of the list.

This seems to be an obvious Miss by the developers. MS DOS even had the ability to sort.
I find it amazing that Microsoft has yet to fix this problem with the user interface in Teams. The Microsoft solution to re-ordering Teams seems to be having the user manually move the Teams around. While that may work where there are just a few Teams, that is not practical nor efficient when a user has many Teams. And I've seen comments that the re-ordering does not "take" after restarting Teams.
And it seems Microsoft knows how to at least alphabetically order Teams by Team name - that's how Teams are displayed in the "Manage" option in settings. Why not extend that functionality to the normal interface? Better yet, provide multiple ways for a user sort the Teams - alpha by name, by date of creation, by activity level, etc. so that the user can set up Teams to best fit the way they work.
The current solution provided by Microsoft is not acceptable today. And it's been a problem for many years. Please fix in the next release.
Without the ability to easily sort the teams list various ways, including alphabetically by name, by last update time, by creation time, by priority, by status, etc.) I would rather be using some other tool. It wouldn't be an issue if people in our teams were members of only a few teams, but we have many customers and many projects and the dysfunctional idea is to use Microsoft Teams with a team for every project.
Teachers could have many classes, often with codes. Not being able to sort is a poor way to organise a UI.
Teams Chat: I wanted to see the newest messages on the top.
Please add sorting alphabetically to sort by date / time - descending or ascending.
I think that there should be options for:
- Sorting alphabetically
- Sorting teams first with unread messages
I like drag and drop but the drag and drop on MS Teams is terrible, at least on the Mac. It often doesn't take and sometimes will revert 10-15 minutes after dragging.
I think a Chrome like sorting capability, like their bookmarks manager, would be much more effective.
I would never sort my teams on alphabetical order. That would feel very random. I have my teams grouped by similarity by dragging them. But lately it's getting harder to keep track of all teams, because the list is getting longer and longer. This topic should first be about sorting by activity. Chats are already sorted by activity, why not teams? The team with the most recent post should be on top.
Would be best if there was a choice in the settings to choose the sorting method:
- By activity
- Custom (drag-and-drop)
Kinda crazy that poor Teams client UI capabilities exacerbate the problems that come with Teams adoption being wildly successful, and surface most when a user is in more than a single Team screen worth of active Teams, let alone hundreds.
Corporate Teams sprawl is a thing and the client is simply not good enough to help handle it.
Most upsettingly this has been the case since 2017 - surely people inside MS suffer with us all?
I can just support the comment of brad:
This is a BUG, not a feature request. Sort functionality is a basic need of all applications, and the preexisting MS platforms all have it in one way or another.
Please add a sort feature to the platform.
It's bad enough that we have a crippled search feature, but that plus the lack of a sort feature really lowers the usability for the platform for everybody.
