File Check in/out
We would like to be able to do file check in/out in Teams. We set our doc libraries to require check in/out.
Need the option for Teams to allow tracking of Team activities (forcing Check-in/checkout)!
We definitely need this. It isn't an issue with smaller documents, but the larger and more complex the documents get the more things get messed up when multiple edit at the same time.

Still in development...

There really is no point for Teams without this. A little faster, please! (it's been well over 2 years now for something any developer could have recognized as a necessity early on)
Michele, you dont need to go to sharepoint to check in either. From the Desktop app you can go to File / Info tab and check in from there. Alternatively when closing the file it should prompt you whether or not you want to check it in.
was this facility not made available? I have it set up in one team already from last year, but strangely cannot see how to do it in the new team we set up

You don't have to go to the SharePoint site to check out documents from MS Teams. If your SharePoint site is set up with permissions to check-in/check-out documents, that is a great start. From there:
1. Click on the document
2. In the purple 'Edit' box on the top right, hit the arrow and click 'Open in Desktop App'
3. The document yellow box at the top that says: CHECK OUT REQUIRED To modify this server workbook, you must check it out. And there's a button that says Check Out. Click that.
4. The document is now checked out and anything you change is automatically saved.
5. HOWEVER, you do have to go to SharePoint to check back in, but this can easily be done by the Project Manager or whomever owns the SharePoint Site.
Yes, it's a small pain and would be nice to just check-in/check-out directly in MS Teams, but for now this is what has to be done.
I don't work for Microsoft but I have seen their staff using Check in Check out.
Regardless of them being incapable of providing timely updates they are definitely working on this.
Our Finance department will not use the Teams interface since they can't check out files without going to the sharepoint site directly. Are there plans to allow this from Teams?

As the Finance lead, I need to post documents that I don't want others to change, but there's no check out feature - much needed!
Not sure why it's necessary to have to go out to the SharePoint site to check in/check out. Why can't we do this all through Teams?
I am surprised that this idea is not gaining so much traction. This is a constant bug bear amongst all the users we have on Teams.
VERY important. Merge SharePoint capabilities in ASAP.
Not only we need to be able to check-out but also flag that a file has been checked out and by whom. It is very confusing otherwise as users don't know why a file can't be edited.
This change would save a ton of time for us and would save others from the pains of having to figure out where the check in button is.
This is vital. Please do it.

This! Check in/out is critical to my operation and I have all my libraries set to require it. I have to recommend users always click 'view in SharePoint' when interacting with the files. . . . doesn't make a lot of sense to most users. Please address this.

This!! This is a HUGE deal for us. We also have check in required, but since users are always in Teams as their hub, it's a big deal to ask them to go to SharePoint, click the dots, go to more, and select check-in for each file they check out.
Teams doesn't even SHOW the check-in/out status of a file, which is an even bigger deal, as the user experience is made worse.

This! I don't know why not more people want this. We have require check in/out on as well, but when new documents are added they are always checked out. And now people have to open SharePoint to be able to check them in because the option isn't shown in Teams.
