In version 1.3.00.13565 this feature is implemented.
Cntr+f set the "/find" command in the current context (chat/channel). -

What is the hold up on a Ctrl+F to search within a specific chat or channel ?

Ctrl+F is so ubiquitous... Three years later and still waiting for such a basic feature.

Absolutely essential and needed - without it the chat functionality is sub-standard!

Got to have this feature. Can you please make it happen?

Right now I'm searching for something that only happen within the past 45 days. It's taking me forever to just go back a week.

Crazy how an app that's marketed for business, has no search tool.
Today I have to move from Skype to Teams and it's a nightmare. How am I going to look for conversation in the group that is talking about that specific file and library we are working with? The conversation that happened last year in the group?

More and more, I rely on this for communication just like email. Imagine not being able to search emails!

If You can have FEED exported than it can be searched with alternate engines ..
With no search option the whole program is unusable !!! -

Agreed, I need to be able to search within a channel and within a chat without searching through all of Teams.

Not being able to do this as a remote workers slows me down

Agreed. Without search refinements, we get HUNDREDS of hits of unrelated things. Frequently, I abandon the use of Teams Search altogether, and MANUALLY sift through the applicable groups or chats or whatever.
THINK ABOUT THAT. I am a Software Developer, and I would be ASHAMED of any product of mine where users say "It's easier and better to sift through things manually than to use the search function you've provided!"
Apologies for such strongly worded feedback. My employer is an all-Microsoft shop, and I really want this platform to succeed and be useable! Right now if I were asked to advise our IT, I'd have to recommend other platforms besides Teams, and that's a shame.

It's so time consuming to find something on the chat convo. Hope you devote time to have this feature available ASAP.

Wait you're advertising Teams on TV and you can't even Ctrl F, laughable.

Looking forward to "Microsoft Teams: Contextual Search" due for release CY2020 (see https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=64017)
I hope it includes the option to view the entire thread for each search result as part of the wider "context" (see https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/19594636-search-results-should-show-the-full-thread and https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/30971131)
