Create document based on a template
There is no ability to assign a document template to a team/document library.
A great functionality would be that a seperate document library could be assigned which contains all the document templates to choose from (Other site).
These templates can then be managed with the same functionality of SharePoint, but the published documents can then be used as a template to start your document.

Is it that difficult to get the same functionality we have in Word, in Teams? I agree with Martijn de Bont. We need to manage templates in teams in a similar way that they are managed in Word -- i.e. create a template, save a template to a specific file, and when you select a template to use, Word opens it as a Word doc, thus preserving the integrity of the template. The workarounds I've just discussed with MS Support are kludgey at best and at least one suggestion was so bad I'm not even going to mention it.
This, by the way, is the second time I've been told "There is nothing we can do. These are design functions and cannot be changed." That excuse is starting to get old.
It would be good to have same possibilities in the "New" option in Teams than we have on SharePoint.
Today we have to "Open in SharePoin" to use that function.
The file template management is now available on online sharepoint document library so it's obvious this feature have to be available on teams interface. I can configure that on the sharepoint document library linked with my channel on the sharepoint online site but this can't be found on teams interface... No good. No cool...

This is a real must-have for organizations leveraging the content types feature of SharePoint, and standardizing.
