Search Results "Go to the chat" link should take you to the result entry within the relevant chat
currently the "Go to the chat" link when you're viewing a Search Result takes you to the end of the chat.
It should bring you to the right date and time, so that you can see the search result in the context of the conversation.
Thanks for the feedback. This work item is in our backlog. We will let you all know when we have more updates.

The absolute state of Microsoft. Basic features can't be done in over 4 years. Opensource it and it would be done before the weekend.

This issue is directly related to https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/19594636-search-results-should-show-the-full-thread, which (as of this comment) has status "Working on it". If and when that's implemented, this should be soon to follow.

Little workaroud: when you use search in the Teams-app on your mobile phone (I have an iPhone), it does work!
Any update, admin Alex?
for the love of all things productive this needs to happen. it's simply unbelievably that this wasn't how it worked right from the beginning. almost all my searched need the context of the surrounding conversation. I'll know one keyword for the entire conversation hoping to see the whole story. As a work tool, Teams is basically crippled completely due to the lack of ability to effectively search. this would be like searching for something in outlook, and the result just showing you the sentence the result could be found in, instead of the entire email message.
Please add this feature.

Please MS. Please please please, pull this off the backlog and implement a fix. This is enterprise software and people are using it to share important information and make decisions. Effective search and context placement are critical.
Without this "feature" I've been literally holding my pageUp key for 2 minutes to scroll up to a conversation from a few months ago. Now Teams is freezing and I can't do anything, excepted restarting it and restart my pageUp key smashing.
What a great tool for productivity (:
How is this still not available? Literally every other messaging app has this feature and yet the place where I need it the most (work) it is not available?

Hows that backlog coming? This is basic chat functionality that just doesnt work.
Search is useless without context
Apologies, I've flagged the idea as inappropriate after voting for it. Actually, I wanted to flag the Engineering reply as inappropriate - how in the world can such a basic feature be in the backlog for years?!
Is this ever going to happen? Without this we'll to switch back to Slack
I placed the same question and request.
I do need to have the possibility to go back to a precise step of the conversation. Otherwise we'd go back to the old email exchange and avoid to use Teams chat.
Please improve this feature.
Totally agree with many comments. Without context, (plus the search implementation itself having a low precision AND a low recall), search is nearly useless
need this immediately

This is really a NECESSARY addition.
Generally, when you are looking for information, the answers are not within a single chat: they're distributed across several replies in the chat stream.
The way it is done now (showing ONLY the message found and NO context) is WORSE than a missing feature... it is the equivalent of taunting the user! You don't want to do that!
"Ha ha, I found a specific message that contains what you're searching for, but it's several months old and you'll just have to try to scroll through hundreds of messages and try to find the place in the message stream where I'm pointing to!"
I know this isn't Microsoft's intent.
But it sure FEELS that way every time I forget and try to search for something, only to have the software taunt me that IT "knows" where my information is but that I don't.
Feature originally shared August 2017. It is October 2020. Microsoft: perhaps I was wrong?
Maybe you DO intend to taunt us, your users? There's not even an "under consideration" tag on this!
If you search a little, you'll see that it has been requested for more than two years, now.
It's supposed to be a "Work in progress", but it should've been there by default.
They're really probably not working on it and it will never be implemented.
I'm already discussing other communication tools with my boss so we can actually work productively.
By the way, Slack does that VERY well. ;)
Who would want to see their search results in the context of the thread... psh.
I came to request this exact feature.
Quite frequently I can recall the topic of discussion, but don't know when it occurred. For example:
me: What is the password to foo.com?
If I forget and search for foo.com, my result is:
What is the password to foo.com?
With no option to go to the original conversation. It stands to reason that when searching, you are often trying to find what someone's response was to a specific question and know the topic of the question, but not the response. The current search is completely useless in the vast majority of use cases for me (and many others as well, I would imagine).
