Open Excel files in Excel!
Don't be greedy and think that Teams is the answer to everything, Excel files should open in Excel, not in a "XLSX File viewer" that hijacks the whole Teams window.
I'm not sure why this type of update hasn't been implemented yet? Files for a MS Office app should open in that app by default. In Teams it should be a hovering preview instead of the preview using up the entire Teams window.

Yesterday I could open my Excel files in Teams. Today I have to view in browser. Nope, no way, not happy. Excel online does not work the way I need it to, it does not have all the functionality, this is maddening. What the heck is going on, please God no!
Also, the Excel XLSX file viewer is an "infinite-column" window. It really triggers my anxiety/OCD to not have a defined border on my spreadsheet. Please fix this. Or, do what Ryan asked which would be much better overall
I agree with Joost - I'd love a default "Open in Excel" setting as a user. I'd also then like Excel to trust me and automatically allow editing. Every time. I can dream, can't I?
It would save clicks, if the user could select their default application by device. i.e. When I'm on my laptop, I always want to open via Excel. When I am on my phone, I want to use Excel Online. When I'm in a conversation, I just want to click on the file....not have to choose every time how I'd like to open the file.

Can Excel be assumed to be present? Doesn't "having to have" Excel make MS greedier? E.g. on mobile?
In my opinion, not loading another bulky application is good for most viewing purposes and is a convenience.

One could open the file in Excel desktop after opening the editor within Teams. This extra step could be avoided and one should be able to set Excel desktop as default viewer or editor.
